I can't think of another PC game that has been this highly anticipated. Half Life 2 was probably it before this announcement but that appealed to a smaller segment of gamers than this will.

If it doesn't suck I guarantee that it will be a phenomenon that will surpass any previous PC game in terms of units sold. I mean hell, it's the national pastime in South Korea.

StarCraft was the number-one selling PC Game of 1998, selling over 9.5 million copies worldwide.[1] As of 2006, over a third of total sales, or 3.5 million copies, have been sold in South Korea.[4] Blizzard's Battle.net online gameplaying service grew over 800 percent after StarCraft's release.[32] StarCraft remains one of the most popular online games in the world.[33]

StarCraft received a star on the floor of the Metreon as part of the Walk of Game in San Francisco in early 2006.[34] IGN rated the game as the 7th best on its Top Games of All Time in both 2003 and 2005 edition, calling it the "best real time strategy game ever made". It also placed #2 among PC games, behind Sid Meier's Civilization II.[35][36] Gamespot named StarCraft one of the greatest games of all time.[34]

Not without criticism, the game suffers from "coarse resolution".[37] It was also noted at release for the problem of "rushing" during multi-player mode, or allowing players to swiftly conquer one another by attacking first instead of allowing time to build up forces, though rushing has since developed into a normal feature of game play and strategy.[38]

After its release StarCraft grew in popularity in South Korea, establishing a successful Pro-gaming Scene.[39] Pro-gamers in South Korea are TV stars. Starcraft Games are broadcasted over three television channels dedicated to the Professional Gaming Scene.[40] Pro-gamers in South Korea have gained television contracts, sponsorships, and tournament prizes allowing the most famous player, Lim Yo-Hwan (known in-game as SlayerS `BoxeR`)[41] to gain a fanclub of over half a million people.[4] Professional gamers dedicate a lot of time in playing StarCraft to prepare for the highly competitive Leagues. Lee Yun-Yeol, a Terran player known as [Red]NaDa, reported earnings in 2005 of $200,000 USD.[33]

Ill never forget when you bought brood war on the previews for the cd was comeing soon WC3 freaking 4 years later the game fineally comes out.So ill be playing this game when Cars will be hovering.

I remember when blizzard redid Ghost that sucked more then it geting cancelled. They turned a sci fi stealth based game in to a mindless fps.

That killed the game for me. I'm a builder. I like to sort of grow and build things. I'd be just starting like Phase II of my base building project and here would come the zerglings of my 10 year old nemesis. On second thought, maybe getting schooled by 10 year olds is what killed the game for me.

Based on what I read, rushing will still be a part of the game in Starcraft II. In fact, it will be enhanced in some ways. There is talk of quicker and more varied tech tree options to allow you to have a variety of rush strategies and counter-strategies.
