I don't know if he just steps into these by accident or he is very calculated. However the issue was RIPE for him to distract and win on at the very least.

Literally have Democrats screaming that the flag represents OPPRESSION. What a master stroke.

There is no honor to fight for something that doesn't even honor black soldiers who help fight those war. America would rather display statues of confederate soldiers that lost a war before having statues of the red tail pilots who have never lost a bomber against our war with Germany. If it's the land of the free then it shouldn't have been slavery & if it's home of the brave then be brave enough to stand up against racism & police brutality. That's what the protest is about
The Red Tails lost bombers, you window licking imbecile. Seriously, you shouldn't get your history from the movies. Although frankly that's probably a more reliable source than the other places you get your "facts" *snicker* from.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Tails

Historical accuracy

Red Tails portrays largely fictional events based on the exploits of the Tuskegee airmen, although many viewers were left with the impression that the film was entirely historically accurate. Through a series of three webinars, entitled: "Tuskegee Airman Webinars Ė 'Was the Movie Accurate'?" sponsored by the Commemorative Air Force's Red Tail Squadron, surviving Tuskegee Airmen Colonel Charles McGee and Colonel Harold Brown provided perspectives related to the film's interpretation. Although discussions as to use of equipment and dates were mentioned, three claims made in the film were the most contentious: the number of losses suffered by bomber crews under escort, the encounters with Luftwaffe jet fighters and the overall record established by the Tuskegee Airmen.

According to period records, it was long believed that the Tuskegee Airmen did not lose a single bomber due to enemy fire, a statement made by a bomber pilot in the film. However, this claim has been proven inaccurate, and an Air Force report from 2006 showed that at least 25 bombers were lost to enemy fire. As depicted in the climactic scene, the Luftwaffe Me 262 interception of a Tuskegee Airmen escort mission did not result in the first victory over the vaunted jet fighters, credited to another U.S. unit much earlier in the war. The film also states in the epilogue that the Tuskegee Airmen established one of the best fighter records in the U.S. Air Force. The film notes that 96 Distinguished Flying Crosses were awarded to the unit and 66 Tuskegee Airmen were killed in action. Officially, the Tuskegee Airmen did not produce a single fighter pilot ace, although Lee Archer's record is still in dispute.

Here's a tip, though. In reality, there was no American pilot who participated in the Battle of Britain, Pearl Harbor and the Doolittle Raid. Of course, since he was portrayed as being white, you probably wouldn't care about that.

There's a monument to the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment at the top of Boston Common. And while the 54th was full of extremely brave men who fought valiantly, it was almost completely ineffective as a true fighting force.

By and large, the 54th got its ass kicked despite what Glory would tend to suggest.

Hollywood isn't all that great at keeping history straight.

It's a great movie, though. Actually my second favorite of all time, behind only Casablanca.

Well since Trump is commander and chief and now has called a black man a SOB for exercising his 1st amendment rights i would say all this talk about standing for the military's sake is thrown COMPLETELY out the window.

America has it's wealth because of two world wars at the beginning of the 20th century that shifted the economic center of the western world to NYC.

Not because they got free farm labor in the cotton fields 200 years ago.

Folks in SC went to haul down the Confederate flag because it stands for “slavery” and “oppression”….

Stars and Stripes flies over “slavery” a helluva lot longer than the Stars and Bars.

yes, many people do consider killing large number of people using the force of the the state pretty evil. So perhaps some of the worst symbols are the ones they used. Governments murder the most and use symbols to lead the people.

and don’t forget the systematic massacre of Native-American populations, not to mention the mass slaughter, rape and robbery of Southern civilians conducted under the banner of the Stars and Stripes. No genocide or mass criminal enterprise was was ever conducted under the banner of the stars and bars.

Now, again, which is the banner of hate?

Fantastic movie but one that struggles in 're-watchability' factor for me. Partly because the historical inaccuracy is a bit annoying but partly because that movie has a whole lot of gut punch to it and various points throughout.

It's a rare event that I think "man, I want to sit here and watch Denzel shed that single tear again..."

It's not exactly popcorn fare, y'know?

You're no more part of any genuine long-term 'solution' than those you abhor. You're just the flip-side of the same coin. You're holding onto past greivances and refusing to see past the events of 150 years ago just as the white nationalists look at those same events and call them the good old days.

You can call it righteous anger all you want but it's still just anger and it's not a solution to anything. You're equally incapable of looking forward when you sit there and insist that an anthem that expressly omitted the language you object to when it was adopted is racist. Or that you can't consider anyone's legacy (or contributions) if they were slaveowners. When you see the flag as nothing more than an example of oppression because it once flew over slave states...man, I just don't know what to tell you.

If all you can think about when you see a statue of George Washington is 'he owned slaves', then you are just as useless to functional dialogue as anyone that sees Rosa Parks as just an upjumped negro.

You can continue to play the Colin Kaepernick role if you'd like. I'll continue to actually listen to the Malcom Jenkins of the world. The guys who go out there and do police ride-alongs and work with local law enforcement to locate and address that 'police brutality and racism' that you insist is rampant. There are people who are being part of the solution. And then there are people just looking to hold onto decades of rage.

To each their own.

Yeah, I'm not going to rewatch it like Aliens or anything, but I've seen it many times. It still remains the most moving film I've ever seen in the theater.
