What is your stance on aliens?

I am curious to see where everyone stands on this. Asking about a stance on UFOs could be a different topic with different options so feel to give your thoughts on that as well.

The silliest argument of all though is limiting an alien species to our understanding of life and the universe. Just because it would take us an unavailable amount of time and resources doesn’t mean that’s the case for potential aliens.

Nobody has any idea what the world will look like from a technological point of view 10,000 years from now. Now try to imagine a civilization a million years beyond us. Outright dismissing it as a possibility they could get here is much too far in the opposite direction of being a unquestioning believer for me to consider you as being open minded enough on this subject.
What would be so cool would be to discover a planet that was at the beginning of time as we know it. Dinosaurs and shit.

first thing I'd do is travel there and go ahead and buy stock in Microsoft, amazon, facebook and apple.

Well said... too many people want to view this subject through the lens of our current understanding of physics, and the universe in general

What if their prime directive isn't based off a 60's sci-fi show but spreading and protecting life?

Agreed.

One needs to consider that our current space technology/travel isn't much better than our ability to travel over land in the 1800's. We could do it but not over any real distance in any reasonable amount of time...

If a species could travel the vast interstellar distances in even a somewhat reasonable pace, there would be absolutely no reason for them to contact us or even visit. Anything they could need would be available in far greater and easier to harvest quantities in asteroids.

This is like saying there's no reason for people to paddle in boats across the atlantic or pacific oceans.

But they did.

Technology later progressed to the point our long and dangerous journey became mundane...

You can't.

I'd argue it's one step below the "God" argument.

It's easier to prove Aliens than God but we can't prove either right now...

There was actually a very good reason why people set off across the Atlantic. They wanted a quicker and safer way to Indonesia and India and they wanted to cut the Muslims out of the spice trade to Europe. You could go around Africa but it was rather dangerous and slow.

Of course first they found not much but then Exploring more the Spanish found a whole ton of gold and that they could grow several cash crops really easy: cotton and sugar. This set off a rush of Europeans to the new world each looking for gold and then finding other crops that grew well either native or transplanted like tobacco, cacao, or vanilla.

In addition foods like tomatoes, potatoes, and chili peppers revolutionized cooking in the old world in some instances completely replacing a similar crop from Asia.

Resources.

Once we get better at travel and less violent the world will have an abundance of resources at its disposal...
