The Long, Slow, Arduous Bataan Death March To Drafting OL On May 8th

I keep looking at the talent right now, have been for about three months.

And I honestly think the talent is at its best at OL towards the end of the 1st round.

Andy Reid needs to replace Albert, and there's no guarantee he has faith in Fisher. And Asamoah has almost certainly left, so we'll be in the hunt for a guard as well.

This is a team looking to get away from Pioli's smaller, nimble OL, and towards Reid's larger, more powerful OL.

Maybe we bring back Schwartz at guard. Maybe not.

God. This franchise has conditioned me to prepare for the worst.

***UPDATE***

OL the Chiefs could potentially, inevitably draft at 23, depending on where things are in 5 months:

OT Greg Robinson, Auburn
OT Taylor Lewan, Michigan
OT Cameron Erving, Florida State
OT Antonio Richardson, Tennessee
OT/G La'el Collins, LSU [not coming out this year]
OT/G Zack Martin, Notre Dame
OT Cyrus Kouandjio, Alabama
OG Gabe Jackson, Mississippi State
OG Cyril Richardson, Baylor
OG David Yankey, Stanford
OG Xavier Su'a-Filo, UCLA

I will run mini-scouting reports on these guys over the next five months in this sad, miserable thread, plus any guys who also drift onto the radar.

If there are any others you'd add, feel free to.

He'd be a great 2nd rounder.

Heh, I see what you're getting at.

Lee isn't high on my wish list, but I wouldn't be pissed if we took him. I'd take him before any of the assorted linemen people want to prognosticate to us. I wouldn't take him before Amaro or ASJ, or probably even Van Noy.

I just want a playmaker with our first pick, really. Pest said it best - you can easily control their contracts their first four years. That makes it even more attractive to take a playmaker, be it on either side of the ball.

Btw Jets signed Jacoby Ford. They should go after Ebron.

ODB should be the Chiefs pick. Makes to much sense.

I would love this but I bet he's long gone by then. I wouldn't be surprised to see this guy go top 15.

One will fall though. We're in the right position that player to fall to us.

nice writeup on trai turner
http://withthefirstpick.com/2014/03/...-turner-g-lsu/

Quote:
Turner is probably going to need a little bit of time to get acclimated, but he has the potential to start and be a potential star down the road. It will come down to how fast Turner can learn the playbook and get in shape enough to be a consistent, every down player.

NFL Comparison
Turner has some similarities to Marshal Yanda of the Baltimore Ravens. They have similar builds for the position and may end up going around the same area of the draft. Like with Yanda, it may take a little bit of time for Turner to find his way in the NFL, but if he can, it could have a similar level of impact the way Yanda has, playing at an incredibly high level.
by the way the article mentioned an interesting tidbit
Quote:
Turner’s best fit is in a gap scheme at right guard. If he can get cleaner around his midsection and more consistent with his ability on the move, it is possible someone could look at him for left guard, but that seems unlikely.
that "midsection" has been Jeff Allen's problem.

Jeff Allen's biggest problem is that he's not a real left guard...

I think ODB is a younger cheaper less assholish Desean Jackson.

I'm personally reminded of a less explosive Harvin.

Pretty intriguing player though.

Yeah, he was actually a really good tackle at times at Illinois. I think he'd be a better backup/swing tackle if we had a better LG on the roster...
