After last season’s horrific playoff loss to the Titans and as a fan of 48 years, I decided I needed a break from discussing the Chiefs. The horrific disappointment once again, more shocking ways we discover to lose and hopes that are dashed with some crazy “Because Chiefs” moment: I just wanted to disengage.
For the first month, I read my usual CP threads and had a tough time not logging in to comment or debate someone I disagreed with, especially in the DC Forum. As time passed it became easier to just read a few of my favorite threads and look for something unique. What was truly cathartic was that I realized that arguing with people online that I don’t know was a complete waste of time and energy. I did the same thing on Facebook.
I began to limit what I would read; threads like “Patrick Mahomes”, “What’s for Dinner”, “Drink of Choice”, “Financial Planning”, “Health and Fitness”, “Hot Teacher Student Sex”, “50 Beers to Try Before you Die “, “Florida News” and unique things like Rainman’s recent “Catching a Freighter to China” - That's some awesome shit right there!
My thoughts:
- I missed engaging with certain CP members I really like and value their opinions or posts. They make CP great for me.
- Several times I wanted to do a meetup during spring training. My favorite team the Pirates are in the Grapefruit League but I wanted to go see a game with a few local Royals fans or people who came to Scottsdale/Phoenix for Spring Training. Sorry it didn’t happen
- All the roster changes on the Chiefs made it difficult not to want to comment or react but I took it all in stride. It is a very different team from just 3 months ago and having someone like DJ (who I love as one of the greatest Chiefs ever) and Marcus Peters leave was frustrating just to read and not post.
- It’s pretty damn exciting to be passing the torch to Mahomes. I’m more than optimistic to say the least and he shined like a diamond against the Broncos. I’m not sure my heart can take many more Titanic let downs…..
- Some truly funny people here that don’t post often but suddenly pop into a thread after not seeing them for some time and drop some original and unique laughable comments. I’ve pissed my pants and laughed out loud many times in the last 3-4 months from people I never knew existed. BRAVO!
- There are some CP members that really have no life. They post all day, all night, argue with everyone and I have no idea what the hell they do in life. They dwell in negativity and post hundreds of times every month. They are sad sacks and don’t even realize it. Truly sad.
At the end of the day, my sabbatical from CP is similar to my personal sabbatical I took in early 2017: it opened my eyes to new ideas and opinions, it made me appreciate some people I didn’t really know or respect before, it calmed me down and I disengaged from stupid arguments, I focused my energy and efforts on work and my goals,
thus making me appreciate and enjoy my time on CP more than before.
Tha, Tha, That’s All Folks!
