Lessons and observations during my mini Chiefs Planet sabbatical

After last season’s horrific playoff loss to the Titans and as a fan of 48 years, I decided I needed a break from discussing the Chiefs. The horrific disappointment once again, more shocking ways we discover to lose and hopes that are dashed with some crazy “Because Chiefs” moment: I just wanted to disengage.

For the first month, I read my usual CP threads and had a tough time not logging in to comment or debate someone I disagreed with, especially in the DC Forum. As time passed it became easier to just read a few of my favorite threads and look for something unique. What was truly cathartic was that I realized that arguing with people online that I don’t know was a complete waste of time and energy. I did the same thing on Facebook.

I began to limit what I would read; threads like “Patrick Mahomes”, “What’s for Dinner”, “Drink of Choice”, “Financial Planning”, “Health and Fitness”, “Hot Teacher Student Sex”, “50 Beers to Try Before you Die “, “Florida News” and unique things like Rainman’s recent “Catching a Freighter to China” - That's some awesome shit right there!

My thoughts:
  • I missed engaging with certain CP members I really like and value their opinions or posts. They make CP great for me.
  • Several times I wanted to do a meetup during spring training. My favorite team the Pirates are in the Grapefruit League but I wanted to go see a game with a few local Royals fans or people who came to Scottsdale/Phoenix for Spring Training. Sorry it didn’t happen
  • All the roster changes on the Chiefs made it difficult not to want to comment or react but I took it all in stride. It is a very different team from just 3 months ago and having someone like DJ (who I love as one of the greatest Chiefs ever) and Marcus Peters leave was frustrating just to read and not post.
  • It’s pretty damn exciting to be passing the torch to Mahomes. I’m more than optimistic to say the least and he shined like a diamond against the Broncos. I’m not sure my heart can take many more Titanic let downs…..
  • Some truly funny people here that don’t post often but suddenly pop into a thread after not seeing them for some time and drop some original and unique laughable comments. I’ve pissed my pants and laughed out loud many times in the last 3-4 months from people I never knew existed. BRAVO!
  • There are some CP members that really have no life. They post all day, all night, argue with everyone and I have no idea what the hell they do in life. They dwell in negativity and post hundreds of times every month. They are sad sacks and don’t even realize it. Truly sad.

At the end of the day, my sabbatical from CP is similar to my personal sabbatical I took in early 2017: it opened my eyes to new ideas and opinions, it made me appreciate some people I didn’t really know or respect before, it calmed me down and I disengaged from stupid arguments, I focused my energy and efforts on work and my goals, thus making me appreciate and enjoy my time on CP more than before.

Tha, Tha, That’s All Folks!

I’ve been posting less and less on here. That’s fine. I just have less in common with the posters on his site than I used to. I miss some of the old friendships I used to have, but that’s life. Things change and you move on. I’m not moving on quite yet, but I’m guessing it’ll happen in the next couple of years, if not sooner. There’s just not enough here that appeals to me anymore. That’s more on me, than anyone else.

Good post, scho

I’m in the midst of a sabbatical from posting in the Royals repository or GDTs. After 5 straight seasons of them being in between competitive and great, I need a couple months to digest the slide back to shittyness

I'm more quick with the ignore feature now (136+).

If I see someone who just joined like a month ago, coming right out of the gate picking the shitty side of a widely sensitive/divisive topic and just overall stirring up shit...I just add them to the list. Because they're 90% likely to be a mult or a troll trying to ruin the experience. There have been a few that I continued to see posting (though hidden), that I've taken off of ignore because they're actually sticking around.

I used to visit DC quite a bit, now not so much. It's basically just a forum of Trump Sucks / Trump Doesn't suck. and there's at least one sad POS in there that has 400+ posts, and ALL of it's posts have been in DC. So, a clear troll. But multiply that idiot by 10, and the experience is ruined fairly quickly.

I don't even post my football opinions all that often anymore. I could post something like "I like french fries", or "I like X Player" and get 50 replies telling me / arguing with me why I'm wrong. For the most part, it's hard to voice an opinion on here and not get into a GD argument. lol

I mainly come here for the entertainment and NFL news that's posted quickly after breaking etc.
