Revisionist GM: would you have drafted Manual or Geno instead of trading for Smith?

All this 'hate on Alex' talk lately.

Well, what would you have done that would have made us better? Be honest

Sanchez turns the ball over too much in comparison to the number of good plays he creates; it's foolish to argue otherwise.

Alex Smith does not make enough good plays to pick a team up from the canvas, and that's why he'll never win anything of consequence, but playing QB as a front-runner is easy.

I watch the games, man. He dug his team into holes in nearly every game and the nature of the NFL leads to garbage statistics that don't paint a true story when you're constantly playing from behind against good teams who switch to prevent. Let me get off my phone and break down Andrew Lucks amazing 2014 for you. The most overrated QB season I can recall

If I was Dorsey/Reid, I would have signed Jason Campbell in 2013 and drafted Geno Smith.

I think and thought that Campbell still had a lot of game left and would have been a very good stop gap for two seasons for Reid's offense while Geno learned the system, the NFL, etc.

Drafts would have been as follows:

2013:
1. Geno Smith, QB; WVU
2. Jon Banks, CB; Mississippi State
3. Larry Warford, OL; Kentucky

2014:
1. Kyle Van Noy, LB; BYU
2. Gabe Jackson, OL; Mississippi State
3. Donte Moncrief, WR; Ole Miss

However, all revisionist history and hypotheticals aside, as Hootie said, two second rounders for Smith is a steal. His professionalism, leadership and work ethic are exemplary. He's turned a 2-14 team into 20 wins in the past two years. Back to back winning seasons that they Chiefs haven't seen since 1996. That's remarkable and he doesn't get the credit he deserves around here. He's the guy at the position that does singularly make a difference and it's been a very positive difference so far.

Even after signing Alex Smith, I still would have drafted Geno and sat him for three/four years a la Aaron Rogers. Geno would have learned a shit ton about being a true pro from Alex.

Let's take a serious look at this.

The Eagles allowed 53 and 38 points to the Packers and Cowboys.

In BOTH of those games, the Eagles defense allowed the opposition to jump ahead by 21+ points early in the game.

This was before Mark Sanchez had turned the ball over even ONCE.

In fact he didn't turn the ball over before halftime in either game.

By halftime the Eagles trailed:

30-6
21-10

The Eagles missed the playoffs because they allowed 53 and 38 points to the Packers and Cowboys.

Who knows what Mark "30 points per game" Sanchez could do with an elite defense like Alex Smith constantly enjoys!

Andrew Luck and the Colts had 4 quality wins this year:

Hou (where he barely beat Tom Savage)
@ Hou (his one true great game of the year)
Cin (was subpar but Andy Dalton was miserable)
Bal (pretty good game)

He was ABYSMAL against Denver, New England, Dallas and Pittsburgh.

He beat up on Tennesee and Jacksonville.

They beat Cleveland in a game he was absolutely terrible in. Like, they had no business winning that game bad.

IN HIS 6 GAMES AGAINST JAX (2), TEN (2), WASH AND NYG HE POSTED A 20 TD : 2 INT RATIO.

20:2

Consider me unimpressed that the Colts beat Houston twice (with Savage once) where his completion percentage was under 55% both times, Baltimore (Flacco) @ home and Cincy (Dalton) @ home while he was RAPED by Denver, Dallas, New England and Pittsburgh.

He was unimpressive this year, and is a prime example of stats never telling the whole story.

He also had 13 FUMBLES in only 27 sacks this year.

THIRTEEN FUMBLES

He did not have a good year. At all.

Back them up on a very short field about five times a game due to his idiot level turnovers like he's done with every other defense he's played with for his career.

Sanchez sucks.

The correct answer is:

With an elite defense, Mark Sanchez wins playoff games.

I would never, in a million years, take Alex Smith over Andrew Luck. I never said that, either.

However, in 2014, Alex Smith had more impressive victories than Andrew Luck.

The Colts are going to lose to the Bengals if Andy Dalton doesn't turn the ball over left and right.

Clay has the athletic talent of a 6 year old girl, so I realize he doesn't understand sports all that well ...

but he's pining for Mark Sanchez. Mark Sanchez.

This is how dumb Clay is ...

It's just sad. And it has really ended intelligent football conversation on this board.
