No way in hell they could have fit a baseball stadium at Main & Pershing but that would have been an awesome location.
Where did you find this at CountryChief? |

I knew about them back in 2006 working on a project for college. But an article came out in either the Star, Business Journal, or Ingram's during the playoff run about the spots for downtown stadium.

Were those actual proposed ideas or was a downtown stadium never really considered?

Drawing board ideas. Royals did a survey with most fans preferring the Sports Complex. Remember Power & Light hadn't been built yet or Sprint Center. KC was still a little weary of Downtown at the time.

First Chiefs and Royals Games I ever went to were in Municipal Stadium. I don't remember much about the Stadium itself. I was, however, one of the 46K in attendance for the Chiefs v Dolphins X-Mas Game.

I was just by there a couple times in October. Did you go to Arthur Bryant's down the hill at 18th and Brooklyn?

I went to a bunch of Royals games there when I was a kid. It was pretty old and crappy then, with "obstructed view" seats behind the posts holding the upper deck. Neighborhood was bad, my dad made us lock our doors as we drove there. As I recall we usually parked in an empty lot with a guy taking money. I was 8 or 9 so my memory may be off a little.
I remember during the 7th inning stretch George Toma had a crew of teenagers that were supposedly the fastest in MLB at cleaning up the dirt and replacing the bases. It was pretty impressive for a young kid. I also remember going to see Billy Graham there, we sat in the outfield near center field. My mom yelled at me for pulling up grass. I guess that was the one in Sept. 1967. Last edited by splatbass; 12-30-2014 at 09:22 PM.. |

I do not understand how people keep whining about not having a downtown stadium... If anything KC is ahead of the curve. You can literally come from anywhere in the city, park and get in the stadium in less than 30mins..

I was in the Huddle Club as a kid. We had field level end zone seat in the corner. Really crappy seats. Had the Huddle Club jacket too. Good times. Went to a few games with my dad at Municipal and the only thing I can remember is that thing by home plate that came out of the ground to give balls to the umpire. They don't need to build a stadium downtown. Truman is great. Easy to get to from any direction and plenty of parking. I've had Chiefs season tickets for 25 years now and the only thing I miss is that they took away the Metro service.
