help me buy a used car

My kid needs a car. I want to spend no more than 5500. I've always been partial to hondas, but I find them to be vastly overpriced, especially in this particular dollar range. And toyotas, forget about it. I am finding a lot of seemingly very nice pontiac products in this dollar range, with not too many miles. G6's, grand prixs, etc. I've never been a pontiac man, but they look like really nice cars with a reliable drivetrain.

The kid like subarus and mazdas, but I doubt I'm going to find much for that money.

I'm also considering a few mustangs, but don't know too much about them.

so cp, what kind of car would you be looking for?

I'd think about a Subaru in that range. Don't be too scared off by miles with those cars.

parts shouldn't be an issue, but people don't want dead products as much.

you might catch some flack, but look into what year Hyundai you can get into for that. My wife had an Accent in college that was a tank, and we have an 8 year old Santa Fe we are very happy with.

I don't know what they are now, but in the 90s and early 2000's, when Mustangs started getting cheaper everyone bought their kid one, and almost everybody's kid wrecked one. So at least a few years ago, insurance was out-****ing-rageous.

I'd grab a couple VINs from a few cars and see what they're running.

I almost bought a 4 cylinder mustang back in the 90's and even then, the insurance was ridiculously more than what I ended up getting (V6 Chevy Cavalier).
