You need to listen to Freddie King and Albert King. Once you do, you'll realize where 95% of SRV's playing and singing came from. I'm not talking "inspired by", I'm talking copying notes, riffs, vibrato and even singing, perfectly.

That's not a knock on SRV but those guys invented "his" sound three decades earlier.

Personally, I think LZ's "blues" tracks suck. For that era, Cream and Jeff Beck's Truth and Beck-Ola blow them away, as does Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac.

Love the blues and many of the artists mentioned. And, of course, I was a huge fan of SRV.

Saw a small time artist a few years ago at the St. Louis Blues Festival. He's from Detroit and his name is Larry McCray. I have some of his stuff. Love it.

Thank you! I've been saying that for years about SRV, but few listen. Same goes for the Clapton/Cream of that era, and Peter Green. How about Mike Bloomfield and the Paul Butterfield Band?
