I have the skills, but also don't have the $$$. I'd really like to build a bare bones 1934 Ford 3 Window Coupe with a Blown 392 Hemi. Too bad its way out of my budget at this time.

I guess it would be useful to go pick up food. Other than that I don't see how this fits in this food forum.

That was a fun thread to thumb though. Thanks for posting
If I were to ever win the lottery, I would build a house with a garage/workshop with all the fixin's. I would totally tackle a project like this, even though I have no experience whatsoever. have the $ to get all the tools you need / 'discover' that you need, materials etc, and time (because I'm not one of those who will continue to work even with $80M in my accounts lol). It would be a blast to build something like that. Bike, old muscle car or whatever. shit....if I won the lottery, I'd probably spend 6 months trying to decide what to build/resto-mod. I would probably end up with a '70 split bumper Camero (c what I did there) and turn it into a road course type car. (forget the generic term for this).

I bet this thread would have many more views if you named it "Awesome PORSCHE 911 restoration"

Looks like a basic restoration to me. I'm not sure what's particularly special about it. Maybe i missed something?

I think it was because the guy didn't have any experience doing something like that. Or, at least that's what I took from reading the posts etc.

I've seen some outstanding restorations though. To me, the best restoration jobs come when you have to engineer parts that never existed in the first place. I guess that would be called "Resto-mod" though.

Yeah, I definitely think it was a resto-mod.
and I think he made some changes in terms of components to make it look more like an older porsche. I think he started with an '85 platform. apparently there were some small changes not on the '85; hood was different, front indicator lights, and rear spoiler etc. Resto-mods are the way to go, IMO. short of having a shit load of money to get a numbers matching car etc.

Resto mod a bullshit term for building cars just like everyone one has since the first restoration. Bring it back. Make it how you want it. Add new technology. But if you sell it as a resto mod you add 5k to the price tag. I don't get why adding the term resto mod makes people think it's worth more.

Resto-mods aren't always worth more, and today's resto-mods are far more involved than resto-mods from back in the day. It's not even close. Original number matching specialty cars are worth more than someone's DIY restomod. The Resto-mods that fetch good money ($100K+) are usually built by shops and have a shit ton of custom fabrication involved. I don't consider the car in the OP a resto mod by any means. It's pretty much a standard restoration. We took a '66 Mustang, transplanted a 2003 BMW Roof on it so it could have a non leaking, fully functional moonroof. Installed an IRS Coil over in the rear, coilover/Steering Rack conversion in the front, complete custom interior, fuel injection etc. THAT is a "resto-mod" by today's standards, and that car isn't even close in terms of custom fabrication compared to some of the other cars our shop and others have built. True Resto-Mods are more expensive than a standard restoration because of the amount of work and money involved, let alone the significant performance and safety increase over a standard restored car.

You haven't been on craigslist lately have you? I'm not talking lsx swaps and ac I'm talking jack offs with a 79 camaro who put vortex heads and a 700r4 in calling it a resto mod.
