Paul Ryan is a superstar

He's giving a good presentation on GOP efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare right now. It's amazing that there are members of the House (notably members of the freedom caucus) who don't understand the Senate concept of reconciliation. The freedom caucus, Rand "grandstand" Paul, and the most moderate senators had better not screw this up. Donald Trump needs to be prepared to hold their feet to the fire.

If everything is thrown in that all of us agree on and like i.e."competition across state lines" etc...... because this bill is not law yet it must pass the Senate as patt said thus "everything" can be filibustered ad nauseam and will be much harder to pass is the way I understood Ryan. What I don't know if this is total BS. Your thoughts.

I don't think you got that exactly right, Sportsshrink. I don't think this phase 1 bill (the reconciliation bill) can absorb non-budgetary amendments and still avoid the filibuster. I could be wrong about that, but if I were, everything would get pushed through the Senate via reconciliation.

I think what he's saying is that both the phase 1 reconciliation bill and the phase 3 legislation will be subject to amendment as a normal part of the legislation process, so people who have problems with one aspect or another will have the opportunity to attempt to change it.

All insurers must offer 10 essential health benefits, including maternity care and preventive services.
You're correct. The Congressional Parliamentarian reviewed what was and wasn't allowed under reconciliation in the repeal bill they passed in 2015.

Those are outside the scope.

The mandate is outside the scope even. All they are doing is adjusting the penalty to $0 for not having health insurance, but the law remains and the penalty could be changed in the future from $0 to a flat amount or % of income.

No one should be surprised a patteeu's position. Luckily, Rand Paul and other conservatives are saying it'd dead on arrival. And to my knowledge, Trump agrees with Rand.

No he doesn't. He supports the bill that is why either him or Pence is going to Kentucky this week in support of the bill to try to put pressure on Paul

Baloney. It won't happen in the end. After all the outrage about the individual mandate they kept it. Plus bailing out the insurance industry.

Pluhease. Ryan works for the wrong interests. Period.

You're not going to bait them.

99.99999% of the health care organizations under the sun have vocally called it a turd.

No one wants on the sinking ship of their craptastic joke bill.

Well I agree with the baloney part as well and Ryan has shown his true colors overtime and why I still had questions and don't trust.

Well, I guess we will see if The Donald" is all go or blow IF as you say he takes Rand's side in this debate which I hope he really does because this Obama lite crap is like not cutting out all the cancer.

This will be Trump's real first test with keeping his word with the base for sure.

Yeah, well Trump does lean toward liking govt provided healthcare. He's all over the map here.

Ryan's plan puts control in the hands of consumers too, in the form of expanded HSAs and, presumably, the end to essential coverage requirments.
Yeah, I agree with this assessment. The perfect bill wouldn't pass the Senate at the present time, so a large step in the right direction is perfectly acceptable. If all goes well and more seats are won, the rollbacks can continue.

The main thing that needs to happen is to remove the individual mandate. That, with its mandatory minimums and one-size-fits-all requirements of coverage, are the biggest upward cost pressure at the present time.

Medicare reform needs to come soon as well if they want to permanently get things headed in the right direction, but Ryan is making a good faith effort to end the ill-concieved Obamacare experiment and I hope the GOP will participate instead of becoming reform's worst enemy.

I haven't read the bill but some of the "conservative" blow back I've heard is that it does nothing to address high costs of drugs and care. Also the one positive thing that ACA did was allow for preexisting conditions and Rand said that particular piece should not be a mandate which, if true is bullshit. I'd be for interstate competition, tort reform, and coverage for preexisting competition. Maybe these things are included in the subsequent stages of rollout.

And why when "We The People" said we wanted OC repealed, I didn't hear the majority of "We The People" wanting a govt replacement either. The only person touting that was Trump and RINOs. That wasn't part of the deal for conservatives anyway.
