Paul Ryan is a superstar

He's giving a good presentation on GOP efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare right now. It's amazing that there are members of the House (notably members of the freedom caucus) who don't understand the Senate concept of reconciliation. The freedom caucus, Rand "grandstand" Paul, and the most moderate senators had better not screw this up. Donald Trump needs to be prepared to hold their feet to the fire.

Saw Ryan on Tucker last night and he explained why "everything" is not in this initial bill. Ryan wants to avoid "filibustering" by the Dems in the Senate at all costs and why amendments later on can be done and then these amendments cannot be filibustered because we have the House. If everything is thrown in that all of us agree on and like i.e."competition across state lines" etc...... because this bill is not law yet it must pass the Senate as patt said thus "everything" can be filibustered ad nauseam and will be much harder to pass is the way I understood Ryan. What I don't know if this is total BS. Your thoughts.

Listen closely.

Ryan's plan puts control in the hands of consumers too, in the form of expanded HSAs and, presumably, the end to essential coverage requirments.
He should only be proposing single payer. This plan is shit. How can conservatives support this bill and still call themselves conservatives?

BTW from what I have read they are keeping the essential coverage requirements

Same here. Anytime something big is going on in D.C., until I know enough to form my own opinion, I look at 3 guys mostly. Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, and Mike Lee. Those 3 generally think the way I do.

And Paul Ryan is teetering on becoming dirty words in this house. I still haven't forgotten how he had barely been selected leader and jumped right in bed with Obama

The essential coverage piece can't be included in the reconciliation bill (phase 1). What I'm not sure about is whether their plan is limited to Secretary Price repealing those regulations in phase 2 (IMO, a poor approach because the next SecHHS could reinstate them) or whether they will eliminate them more permanently (crucial IMO).

Hugh Hewitt advanced an idea to permanently wipe those regulations via the Congressional Review Act, but I haven't heard any commentary on that from lawmakers.

Obviously they won't but they should and even Trump supports it (until he decided to run). IMHO that is the only viable healthcare plan.

And yes the Dems were stupid for not doing it but if this plan fails and they get back in power they won't that mistake again.

I listened on radio and he did do a very good job. And I agree, Rand is an attention whore and not adding to the end product whatsoever.

I'm similar. I trust Rand Paul, Justin Amash, and then listen to Ted Cruz and Mike Lee. I have a lot of faith in the Freedom Caucus in general.

Maybe you are right but I got this from the NY Times with the breakdown.

Listen closely.

You mean the Tucker interview where he asks why the bill seems less about fixing and replacing the ACA, and more about a tax cut for the super rich.

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer...-the-rich.html

Carlson: The overview here is that all the wealth [in] basically the last ten years basically has stuck to the top end, that’s one of the reasons we’ve had all this political turmoil, as you know. Kind of a hard sell to say, ‘Yeah, we’re gonna repeal Obamacare but we’re gonna send more money to the people who’ve already gotten the richest over the last ten years.’ I mean, that’s what this does, no? … I’m not leftist, that’s just, that’s true!

Ryan: I–I–I’m not concerned about it because we said we were gonna repeal all the Obamacare taxes, this is one of the Obamacare taxes. The other point I’d is, this dramatically helps tax reform.

They couldn't use CRA, the ACA was passed 7 years ago.
