Geno Smith fans roll call

NEW THREAD HEADER (11/17/12):

The list is gone. We will all be Geno Smith fans when he gets drafted by the Chiefs. For historical documentation's sake, I'll keep the list in a separate post on this thread: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=3314

WHY GENO SMITH?
If you're wondering if Geno Smith is right for you, check out this brilliant post by Saccopoo:

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=5388

Next, we have a few GIFs you may be interested in from the Oklahoma game. Insane potential. These are the elite throws that very few QBs can make. What more can I say? Geno Smith can be a franchise QB in the NFL, and the Chiefs need to take a shot on him.

GIF #1:
Spoiler!

GIF #2:
Spoiler!

GIF #3 (My favorite):
Spoiler!

HOW DO WE GET HIM HERE?

Glad you asked. I posted this checklist earlier. It probably belongs in the thread header, and will be updated as the Chiefs close out their season and start a new chapter in their franchise story.

Preparing for Geno Smith's Arrival In KC Checklist

1. [X] Lose games and acquire the #1 overall pick
2. [X] Get Pioli and the Patriot Way cronies the **** out
3. [X] Hire new GM/coach

OPTIONAL (but highly recommended):
4. [ ] Re-sign/tag Bowe, who really wants to play in KC with Geno
5. [ ] Re-sign/tag Albert

Geno does have a lot of physical tools that you can't teach, SNR, but the thing I will be looking at with Geno is his football IQ.

I think that could be a prime reason why Barkley could pass him up. Barkley has proven he has a strong arm. Geno is gonna have to prove to GM's in February that he is smart, because he was exposed in that aspect against Tech and KSU.

How again has Barkley proven he has a strong arm?

Are we going to go back this his rainbow a couple of weeks ago? Cassel makes that throw with the room that Barkley had to stride forward and launch it.

Barkley has established time and time again that his arm is, at best, adequate.

I just thought I would point out that Smith is not having a year that far off of what RG3 did last season. Smith so far through 10 games has 3,361 yards, 70.1% completion, 35 TDs, 5 INTs, and a 159.3 rating.

RG3 last season in 13 games finished with 4,293 yards, 72.4% completion, 37 TDs, 6 INTs, and a 189.5 rating.

And before you claim its because of the early schedule, Smith's Big 12 splits are 2,289 yards, 65.9% completion, 23 TDs 5 INTs, and a 147.4 rating.

Basically, he is having an awfully comparable year in the same league that RG3 played in yet people say there are no worthy top pick QBs simply because as a whole they aren't the best. Well, who cares because we only need one.

Smith is awfully comparable to RG3 in every aspect of the game involving throwing the ball. The difference and wow factor that RG3 has is the superior athleticism. It would be nice if Smith was like that, but we know that you don't need that ability to win in the NFL so oh well. You just need to move well in the pocket to make up for it and Smith does that.

Coaching, coaching, coaching.

Geno Smith will do just fine in football IQ. You know how Russell Wilson impressed the pants off everybody in Jon Gruden's QB Camp special last year? Geno is capable of doing the exact same thing. Rattling off coverages and protections like it was yesterday's lunch menu. He's played in two different offensive systems, both of them which require him to make defensive reads like any pro style QB would.

It's Dana Holgorson who should have to prove to GMs in February that he's smart. HE was the tard responsible for the mess against TT and KSU

His arm is def strong enough for the NFL there is no question about that.

Again, those are not good examples of what truly counts as 'NFL arm strength'.

Cassel can throw a ball 60 yards in the air if given the chance to hurl his body into it. It's not that impressive for an NFL QB. What that does is show that he has sound mechanics.

If you want to show off arm strength it's the ability to drive the ball into intermediate zones without a hump because you're putting enough velocity on it to get the point of the ball down. You're keeping leverage on your throw and can fire it into windows.

It's also the ability to quickly and with a compact release fire a ball into tight spaces. Barkley can't do that, he needs his entire release and plenty of room to move his feet to get balls to come out of his hand with any jump. That's not 'usable' arm strength because so many NFL throws come while under some form of duress or without the benefit of a massive, clean pocket. Barkley doesn't have 'easy' velocity or natural arm strength.

Everything is relative - Barkley can throw a football harder than 99% of the world. However, he is closer to Matt Cassel on the arm strength spectrum than he his Matt Stafford. In the end, his arm is adequate for the NFL and nothing more.

He is not going to be elite or anywhere close to it. He'll be a passable system quarterback that will probably be good enough to get some teams into the playoffs here and there. That's about it.

He has most assuredly not 'proven that he has an strong arm'. If anything, he's proven that he doesn't.

We're all on the same page in saying that Matt Cassel does not have adequate arm strength for an NFL starting quarterback, correct? Can I get you to admit this out loud before clicking on the link below?

Spoiler!

Barkley does not have a plus arm. It's better than Cassel's, but not by a lot. His arm, just like Cassel's, is a product of being able to maintain sound mechanics to drive a ball downfield.

Quarterbacks with truly strong arms can still get muscle on the ball without their feet under them. Smith is that kind of quarterback. Barkley isn't.

Those gifs are stupid. You and the rest of the Barkley backers can keep posting them to tout Barkley's arm strength, but they just don't mean anything. Every QB in the NFL can get a ball 55-60 yards when they have the ability to put their feet under them and launch their body into it like Barkley had in both of those throws.

Geno threw a 50 yard strike down the seam, into a tight window, from his own endzone, while getting pressured, when his team was behind.

Nuff said.

That 3rd GIF in the OP perfectly demonstrates why it's so important to have a QB with a lightning-quick release, and it also demonstrates that Geno Smith has that very release.

Consider how far away the defender is when Geno starts his wind-up. Three yards? How long will it take for him to disrupt the throw? Probably a tenth of a second or so.

In that split second, Geno Smith has completed his windup and the ball is out of his hands just as he gets hit.

THAT is an elite QB, folks

I swear in the last 2 months, I have bounced around on which QB's camp I'm in.

I started out Tyler Wilson, then he got hurt and the Hogs went to hell while Geno was putting up video game numbers so I jumped to team Geno. Then he started falling off and I thought maybe Barkley aka the safe pick was the way to go. Then he started throwing picks and got hurt. Now I think I'm back on Geno. Then Wilson, and then Barkley.

I guess any of them are 100000000x better than what we have, although I can't see us or any team picking Wilson in the top 3, it would be a trade down in the 7-10 range.
