Sushi

Do you like sushi and do you have a favorite spot?

I really like Haru's steak and sushi in Olathe on 119th. Their Las vegas rolls are the bomb. Tuna sashimi also.

That Hawaiian roll is the bomb, it has tempura fried yellow tail tuna in it, 100% cooked and crispy...

Now if you ever ate Sushi and you hate it, that's cool but if you haven't and just think you hate it, you don't know what you are missing.

Some people do hate rice so if this is the case then pardon me.

I understand that it's just a rice roll.

Fine.

I don't want your raw fish meats with it.

I live in Missouri, not Cali, where there's a very low standard as far as health inspectors go...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

You don't have to eat Raw... Deep Fried crispy shrimp wrapped in a little rice is like wonderful man...

I live further away from Kookifornia than you... It's just damn good food...

You mix your Wasabi with the Soy sauce, Wasabi kills parasites if they are any...

No different than ordering a medium rare steak, I trust the fish more than the beef because fish will let you know when it's bad.

Sushi is best tried whenever you have a group of people. Each one can order a roll and share. When we go out, we usually end up with a table full of rolls.

I'll share with the right person, but usually get what I like for me and will recommend other stuff for new kids on the block, so:

It was so awesome dude. I had it at a Sushi restaurant in the Bay Area.

It's been my favorite ever since.

It's still considered sushi though.

And food should be a lot more, especially sushi. In Japan, you have to apprentice for 10 years before you can be considered as a "sushi chef." There is a huge amount of knowledge that is required, from the preparation of the rice to the quality of the fish to the proper slicing and to the pairings of the fish itself.

And food itself is an art form. The texture, the taste, the smell, the visual, etc. There is so much that needs to be put into it to achieve a high satisfaction level in terms of addressing all the senses.

I don't mind that people are eating "sushi" in the same way that I don't mind that they go to Applebees or Olive Garden. If they are happy with mediocrity in their food, then it works for them. I just find that the proliferation of sushi joints over the past 10-15 years has diluted the quality and dedication to the art which made it popular in the first place.
So you've eaten sushi in Japan then? If you have, then you would know that 95% of what we eat here as "sushi" is the same as it is in Japan. As long as the fish is fresh or flash frozen (even in Japan), then it is generally the same. The specialty rolls are unique to each restaurant, but it's still that way overseas.

I'm sure there are crappy sushi places all over the place, but that goes for any type of food. Just because it has become popular for Americans doesn't mean the quality or craftsmanship of the food is crap. I had "mall sushi" in Japan that was that way.

And, sushi is more popular today than it was 10 years ago, but I've been going out to restaurants for it for 30 years here in the Midwest. You just sound pissed because you wanted to be trendy and cutting edge and found out what millions of Japanese and Americans have known for half a century. Sushi is good food.

Well said. It doesn't take 10 years to learn how to cook acceptable rice and cut fish on a bias.

I ate in a sushi place in Orlando in January. Myself and another lone white guy were the only non-asians in the place, out of about 50. I figured I'd made a good choice...
