Self-preservation does not justify murder. I understand that you and the other Heisenberg defenders think that it does, but it doesn't.

Planning and ordering the killing of Gail just to save his own skin does not excuse the act. Saying "OK Todd, your killing of the kid on the motorbike was just fine" is not OK.

That's the difference between Jesse and Walt. It's why Jesse is a tortured soul and Walt is a sociopath. Walt truly doesn't give a damn.

There are no perfect people but Hank is wearing the white hat here even turning down his wife's plea to fabricate his statement after he whipped Jesses ass.
I rooted for Walter, pretty much until he started working for Gus. His actions up until that time were reasonable for a man in his condition. He turned into a lunatic after that.

1. Walt didn't shoot Drew Sharp. How exactly is he responsible for Todd being an impulsive idiot?

2. Walt poisoning Brock was a play to convince Jesse that Gus Fring was the danger that needed to be dealt with. That was about survival. The kid didn't die.

3. Walt watched Jane die because he knew that otherwise Jesse ODs a month later with a dufflebag full of cash, ZERO self-control, and a relapsed junkie girlfriend by his side. He was torn up to see Jesse so hurt by it. It was him who paid for Jesse's rehab.

4. Had Walt not snuffed Gale out, he dies at the hands of Mike. Survival again...

Walt has EVERY reason to kill Jesse, Hank, and Marie...this very second...and he hasn't...yet.
This is like rooting for a serial killer because they don't kill their family members and close friends.

Would Gus have tried to kill Walt if his ego didn't get in the way? It's not self preservation because Walts ego and excessive pride put him in a defensive position.

There's no honor among thieves. All of these men have found themselves on the wrong side of what is pure and just. Walt is no more evil for killing them than they are for manufacturing or distributing methamphetamine.

Which episode did this happen in?

The SAME tortured soul who was selling meth before Walter White ever re-entered his life. The SAME tortured soul who used a rehab program as a fishing hole for peddling more meth.

This "Jesse = good/Walter = evil" shit is a false dichotomy.

That's a horrible analogy.

Walter hasn't gone around killing a bunch of innocent people.
They've all been intimately tied with the manufacturing or sale of methamphetamine.

No episodes that define the series? No episodes that stand above just about all other episodes in the history of television?

I agree.
