****Official Royals @ Rangers Gamethread 5/14****

I guess this is as good of a game as any for my first gameday thread. I hope I don't screw up the victory.

Let's hope Guthrie can build on his last start and get our starting pitching woes turned around. Here is to a series split and a little momentum going into our next series featuring two divisional first place teams.

In all seriousness, we know you can't win the pennant in April and May, but you sure can lose it. If nothing else, Cleveland and the White Sox are off to the kind of disastrous start that is tough to rebound from when you're chasing competent teams like KC/Detroit that should be pretty consistently good all year.

Here are friends or people I know who are Yankees fans and their other sports choices.

One is a Yankee and Notre Dame football only fan.

One is a Yankee and Cowboy Fan

The other is a Yankee and 49ers fan

IMO the rules of fandom are pretty easy

you can only cheer for teams in the city/state you grew up in, the college you went to, or any of the places you move to

if you are a Yankees fan and you've never lived in New York ... you're just a bandwagon joke

I grew up in a state without professional sports. I chose my father's teams. My grandparents were Chiefs season ticket holders in the 60's and early 70's. Does that count?

But have you played Madden with them on franchise mode? Made one of chiefsplanets famous backup QB's into an all pro? If so, then you can be a fan.

I grew up in a state with no professional football or basketball team. The Royals played right up the road in Spring Training.

I suppose I'm ok with you picking a team as a kid and sticking with it forever and ever ...

though I have a lot of friends like that who are 49ers fans which is a little annoying but at least they stuck with them as they sucked earlier this decade

I lived in SF for 5 years and LA for the last 15 years. Tried like hell to become a Giants/Sharks fan then Angels/Ducks/Kings/Clippers (**** the 49ers, Lakers and Dodgers - never). Nothing ever came close to sticking. Clippers is the closest but really I couldn't care less if they win or lose.

Can't shake Royals, Chiefs and Tom Watson no matter how long I live away from KC. Still not over the British Open a few years ago. I didn't go to MU/KU or K State but I still get broken up if they lose a big game more than any team in CA.

Red Sox and Mariners were tied in the 9th. Rickie Weeks was playing LF for Seattle, Red Sox hit a routine sac fly and Weeks just flat dropped it. You don't see that too often.

I don't mind who's a fan of what team as long as they stick with that team. Too many fans pick whatever team they find interesting then jump ship the instant their team starts stinking.

OR

You can root for the team your parents/family root for.
I grew up going to Husker football games because my family is from Nebraska. I did not go to college there and I do not live there.

It still irritates Bob Dole to see an outfielder catch a ball without using both hands. It doesn't take any more effort, and you have some chance of recovery if you manage to muff the catch.
