BERLIN (Reuters) – Jamaican Usain Bolt won the 100 meters final at the world athletics championships in a world record time of 9.58 seconds Sunday.

The dude is lanky and looks funny coming out of the blocks, but buries all opponents.

You can still look at the splits though to see his speed progression. The point remains, there's no way he ran a 3.49 "40 time" to start. He ran his first 30m in 3.79 and a "40" is about 36.57 meters.

His 60-80m split is sick though. Poor Gay Tyson...

This guy is just ****ing dominating. ...and there is no way he ran a 9.07 the first 100m. That would be ****ing crazy.

There is no way. The splits were screwed up by the stagger. They have him at 19 secs at the 200 split which suggests he ran the last hundred in 12 secs. His fastest split is obviously going to be the final 100 meters because there's no turn and no start. So, guessing true splits would put his last 100 around 10 flat, middle 100 10.5 due to the turn and the start 10.5 due to the start.

300 used to be my favorite sprint but never had the opportunity to run it in competition. We ran hundreds of them training for the 200 though.

I guess I'm ignorant, or don't follow track close enough, but I didn't know 300 meters was a distance they ran in competition.

According to IAAF Analysis Split Times, Usain Bolt ran his first 40m in 4.65 seconds. Subtracting his reaction time which was .165 seconds, he ran the 40m in 4.485 seconds. 40 yards is a totally different measurement than 40 meters. 40 yards is equal to approximately 36.576m
