Ad Blockers

Ok I have a small project I just finished up for a client and wanted to test it here.

First a poll to see who has an adblocker installed and second a test to see if you can see the text at the top of the page asking you to Whitelist ChiefsPlanet so I have money to buy drinks pay for the server.

So, what say you?

OK, total POLL fail on my part. If you don't see AND you use an ad blocker can you let me know. I should have made that two separate options.

Hell, I'll edit it now.

It may have been because I hadn't fixed that yet. I initially typed the wrong usergroup number into the if statement for it. Cuz I'm an idiot.

First off, I want to thank everyone for the feedback.

Second, what do you guys think? Should I leave it up there or possibly spruce it up and add a link to how to whitelist the site?

My thinking is... ads are what pay for the server costs and upgrades (if VB ever gets a decent version of VB5 finished) so it's important that they show.

Opinions?

I see the ads under the header whenever I'm on the site but not logged on. Whenever I log on, they disappear.

I like the link to how to white list. I didn't think about the ads thing till that text came up. I'd gladly deal with ads if it supported the site. I figure most people on here would feel the same, even if they don't have the technical savvy to figure out how to fix it.

I like seeing the ads. They're great for multitasking where I can shop and goof off at the same time. Saves time.

I think you should leave it up there for everyone, even supporters. It's not like the ads here are intrusive, you don't even see them unless you scroll way down the page.

Yep I added those sneaky ads a while back. I figured people who aren't logged in can't bitch.. and if they log in to bitch the ad goes away! Win-win!

That would be nice. AdBlock has been such a constant in my online life for like 10 years that I don't even know what the Internet is supposed to look like with ads. But I'd whitelist sites like this if it meant helping the ship stay afloat.

Got an adblocker solely because of CP putting a stupid embedded flash ad every time I clicked on a new thread page.

I see nothing. Because Apple.

So I didn't vote in your poll. I doubt Apple is affected the way PC is.

I actually tested on Apple and Windows. It should work regardless since it is just javascript.

Do you see the ads at the bottom of the page? If not you should see the tiny text message directly below the CP logo.
