Batman Prequel 'Gotham' Headed to Fox

Before Batman, there was, well, a lot of crime in Gotham City, and only Commissioner James Gordon was there to fight back. He's the subject of a new Fox series, Gotham, based on the character introduced in Detective Comics #27 – the same issue that first presented Batman.

The new show will focus on Gordon in the years before Batman, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which means the caped crusader won't himself appear on Gotham. The show, which received a direct-to-series order from Fox, will be written and executive produced by Bruno Heller, showrunner of The Mentalist.

Gotham and Tina Fey's as yet untitled new comedy with Matt Hubbard and Robert Carlock are the only shows to land a straight-to-series order from Fox for the 2014-15 broadcast season.

We all know where it will start. Gordon is a young up and coming detective, hand picked to find the murderer of the Waynes.

Honestly, I would much rather somebody made a Downton-esque show about Alfred taking care of an orphaned Bruce, and raising him to have a strong moral compass and compassion for the poor and weak.

This looks to me like the kind of show that TV people may like as a well-made TV show, but comic people won't necessarily like as a comic adaptation.

Honestly, I'd rather have a well made TV show than a faithful comic adaptation. Same goes for comic book movies.

Although...depending on how much of Gotham Central they're using, it could be both.

The way they introduced the villains was fairly disrespectful to the audience, IMO. It would have been more interesting to figure out the characters over time.
