Family vacation

We were toying around with doing a driving trip to Myrtle Beach, SC but before we book I want to touch on another option with the CP travel nuts.

Driving to Orlando which surprisingly is only 1 hour further. It will be the hottest time of year unfortunately but I wanted to know about how much you can get done in one day at Universal Studios and Seaworld. The rest of the time would be Cocoa Beach or some other beach.

The entire family would be going so it will be a LONG 2 day road trip going there and getting back. We would also only have 5 full days to enjoy the stuff around us.

Opinions.

Update - We are booked for Orlando now so I'm only looking for suggestions close to there.

I mean, if you pick either Universal or IOA you could probably do everything.

I doubt you could fully experience both in just one day at peak tourist times though..

Ever been to the pan handle? Santa Rosa beach. Most beautiful sand beaches I've ever been to, and I've been to alot. Very kid friendly

Just my 2 cents, playboy.
No shit. Siesta key was called the best beach in the whole world by Dr. Beach in 2011. Trip Advisor called Ft. Desoto beach the best beach in America in 2010. And those arn't even the tourist beaches like Clearwater.

You get the bigger waves on the Atlantic coast but the Gulf side has the white powder and cleaner beaches and water.

We are limited to where we can get affordable condos though. The one we found in Orlando is a damn bargain for a pretty good resort. $369 for the week.

How set are you on driving to that part of the country..The wife and I are talking about taking our 2 kids on a riverboat cruise down the Mississippi River to New Orleans..it leaves from Hannibal Missouri I believe and it's like a week long if I remember right..it stays in port at New Orleans for a night so you get time to look around the city..just an idea to think about

No way you can do all the big rides at Universal in one day during peak tourist season. Same with Disney.

Yeah, Siesta Key, Sarasota and all that on the south side of the gulf are second to none.

I want to say Siesta Key is something like a 4 hour drive from Orlando though. That's why I suggested Clearwater or Treasure Island since it's reasonable drive-wise.

Could you imagine taking a family vacation across the country & deal with a dead aunt on the way & finally get there the theme park is closed for renovations?

It would make me so mad I'd get a fake gun and take the guard for hostage and make him take us on all the rides.

You might be right. I live in Orlando so I wouldn't dare set foot in that place from June-August..

if you think you hate the car now, just wait until you drive it.

I know, but there just isn't shit to do within one days drive of us. I'm sick of Colorado, St Louis and Branson. The kids are bored with mountains and just shut down when we try to make a vacation a history lesson.

Agreed.

For the record, we have only tried to give them some history on one vacation and it failed miserably.

You should go to North Carolina instead and hang out with R8ers. I'm told his moonshine is second to no one.

But is it as good as apple pie moonshine?
