Time for another tournament: favorite movie scenes.

Edit: The Tournament Is Now Underway and no more nominations will be accepted after Post 498. Look for the SceneItAll Tournament Threads.

I saw two movies today that featured iconic scenes: Big, with the piano dancing scene, and Risky Business, with the underwear dance.

It got me wondering about my favorite movie scenes, and I thought it would be a good tournament topic. So this is the nomination thread. Tell me your favorite movie scenes.

The rules:

1. A scene is generally defined as a segment in a particular place and time, continuous in presentation.

2. A scene should be no more than about three minutes in length.

3. I debated on what adjective to use. Most memorable scene? Best scene? I ended up landing on "favorite scene", because that lets you select based on your own feelings.

4. Probably no porn scenes since they would automatically win.

5. We're talking scenes, not lines. So your nomination needs to be at least one minute long unless you can argue that it's a full standalone scene that's shorter.

I'll likely do this as a brutal one-on-one single elimination tournament since I expect to get a lot of nominations. However, I could change this once I see what we have lined up.

I'll start by nominating the following:

- the piano dancing scene in Big

- the underwear dance in Risky Business (sorry about the ad - starting at 0:32 in this clip)

- the scene staring into the Seurat painting in Ferris Bueller (from 0:53 to the end of this clip, though they cut it off a little too soon)

- the Ferris Bueller parking attendants flying in the Ferrari

- Forrest Gump deciding to stop running (5:08 to 6:37 in this clip)

Are there any scenes nominated from Ocean's Eleven? One of my favorite movies but I haven't seen anything from it yet. I have no idea how I missed this thread back when nominations were still being taken. I would've had a couple of nominations to add.

Ummm, nope. I don't have access to the file right now, but I don't remember any of their scenes.

In case you're curious, here's a summary through Heat 131 of the scenes that are moving on to the next round.

These all have a pass to Round 2 because they obtained the highest percentage in their heat or because they tied for the highest percentage. I list them in descending order of the percentage of votes that they received. Of course, the percentage is based on the power of the scene, but also on the quality of the competition it faced. So there are some powerful scenes that are lower on the list if they faced tough competition, and some weaker ones could rise higher if they were in a patsy heat.

Further down, I list a handful of scenes that are battling for a wild card spot.

A lot of good movie scenes in that list. Quite a few horrible ones too. How anything from Anchorman made it, much less 4 scenes is beyond me. Hopefully those will all go away along with Dodgeball in round 2. But I doubt it considering this is the same group of people that voted Chris Farley as the greatest SNL performer of all time over Dan Akroyd, John Belushi, Bill Murray and a slew of waaay better actors.

Holy cow. There really ARE four Anchorman scenes in there. I'm stunned.

It's interesting that only one Napoleon Dynamite scene has made it through Round 1 so far. I think there's at least one more scene coming up, but it's taking a beating.

My guess is that it's because it's one of the funniest movies ever made, as well as one of the most quotable movies ever made.

Anchorman? Funny??? I tried to give that movie a chance. The only time I even smiled was at GFY San Diego. Other than that, I was very upset that I wasted 2 hours of my life watching that garbage. Will Ferrell is, without a doubt, the worst actor in the history of movie making. How he keeps getting cast for movies is one of life's great mysteries.

Actually, it's only 94 minutes. And it is one of the highest-ranked comedies in the history of film. 7.3 average rating on IMDB.

94 minutes of pure crap. I thought it would never end. I don't know how it got ranked so high on IMDB. I held that site in high regards......until now.
