You do not. There is a long long line of auto vs auto liability claims, arbitration cases, and court cases that disagree with you. Usually, it is shared liability in these instances, but most of the time the person making the left turn on the red light is the majority fault. It can depend on the situation, but by far and large that is how it works. If they are making the left turn on the expiring yellow light they are almost solely at fault. You are mistaken. If driving schools are teaching it this way, they are wrong plain and simple.

Now I do agree, people going under the speed limit, not passing anyone, have no real reason to be in the left lane. But the guy going ten over in the left lane is really a bigger asshole than the guy going 20 over, honking at you, riding your bumper 10 inches away? You have no idea what you're talking about. If the light is a left turn yield on green you pull into the intersection and you have the right of way until you can complete your turn. But you text and drive so your opinion on driving is void.

There's definitely some patience needed in that situation for the guy going 20mph over... if someone wants to pass me, I make every attempt to get to the right so he can do that, but I'm not going to slow down and merge into the right lane and then get passed by people behind him.



And I never sit in the middle of an intersection waiting to turn left... you're saving what, a second, maybe two if it's a huge intersection?

You sit there and sit there, no opening in sight, and then the light starts to turn yellow. Still no opening. It turns red, and now you are shit out of luck. If you would have stopped and waited back before entering the intersection you wouldn't have put yourself in this predicament. Now, you are forced to make your left turn while the light is red. And bam! You are T-boned by another vehicle. You claim the other person is solely at fault, but the reality is you are both at fault, and you are at fault more than the other guy. Not only did you run a red light, you also failed to yield while making a left hand turn.

Where did you learn this? Please produce such literature from a state sanctioned driver handbook or rules from the road.

Here are examples of right-of-way rules:

A driver who approaches an intersection must yield the right-of-way to traffic that is in the intersection.

Example: You approach an intersection. The traffic light is green and you want to drive straight through. Another vehicle is already in the intersection making a left turn. You must let that vehicle complete its turn before you enter the intersection.

If drivers approaching from opposite directions reach an intersection at about the same time, a driver that turns left must yield to traffic that moves straight or turns right.

Example: You want to turn left at an intersection ahead. A vehicle reaches the intersection from the opposite direction and moves straight ahead. You must wait for approaching traffic to go through before you turn. You may enter the intersection, however, to prepare for your left turn if the light is green and no other vehicle ahead of you plans to make a left turn (see "Turns" later in this chapter). When you enter the intersection, keep to the right of the center line. Keep your wheels straight to prevent a push into oncoming traffic if a rear-end collision occurs. When traffic headed toward you clears or stops for a red light, complete your turn.

That just the first google hit, and happens to be NY. You have the right to enter the intersection to wait for the turn, and you have the right of way until you've completed that turn.

How about you goose it up to 75, complete the pass in short order, get the **** out of the way and let everybody get on with their day?

Or what's better is when these left lane cock knockers realize you're passing them on the right and speed up so you can't complete your move. Those ****ers should get dick cancer.
