Sons of Anarchy has been written to be 7 seasons long from the beginning. Sutter has discussed the possibility of extending it if FX really wants to but he planned for it to be 7 seasons.

I had a feeling the first three or four episodes would be lots of storytelling and less action due to a new group being introduced. What I like so far is Boyd being bombarded on all sides to the point you hope he is going to snap like at the end of the 1st season. Next season, which will be the last for the show, will all be about Boyd and Raylan.
