Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

Supposedly that bear spray stuff is the real deal. It makes sense, if you think about how sensitive the bear's nose is.

I mean, I'd be carrying both items but I'd probably bet on the spray. I don't know what my ability to hit a charging bear in a vital organ with a .500 mag or whatever would be. Probably unlikely

Bwanas pepper spray exploded and I figured it was just a bad can. A month later, I went riding in grizzly country and took my spray as usual. I grabbed my gps and spray out of my soft luggage and mounted them near the handle bars, as usual. Two minutes later I was in agony. My spray had exploded and covered everything.

I still carry a can, but I don't trust my life on it. Smith & Wesson seems to have engineered a better product.

A really big fan of this little beauty:

Metal construction, a really great short-reset trigger, hogue grip, night sights. Just finished a case of 1,000 rds and have not had a single malfunction.

I'm thinking of getting an old Mosin Nagant but I know very little about them. The last time I was at Cabelas, they had 9 or 10 of them on the used racks for between $149 and $229. Can anyone give some quick pointers on what to look for in order to pick a good one?

First of all, don't buy one from Cabela's. Every Mosin I've seen there is beat to hell and overpriced.

Some features are more desirable and will cost you more, such as a hex receiver, laminated stock, or certain arsenal markings.

And certain models will cost more, like the M38, M44, or original PU snipers.

For your first MN, I'd probably get a round receiver 91/30, which is the most common and therefore the cheapest. I bought one a few months ago for $119.99 + shipping/transfer fees. Its a '43 91/30 made at the Izhevsk arsenal in Russia. I got it from AIM Surplus, and would highly recommend them.

If you do end up buying a MN, you won't regret it. Not only are they cheap and plentiful, but so is the ammo!

FWIW, I've purchased surplus guns and ammo from AIM and CLASSIC from the list above, and liked 'em both. They'll usually offer a $10 service to pick 'the best of 4 guns' as they choose the gun to send you - it's worth the $10 IMHO.

Pointers on picking a Mosin? Read a few of the links above and below for more details. They've mostly been 're-arsenaled', so they've been blued and the wood shellacked. The bores will ALL look kind of bad, due to the primers the Russians used - but if the rifling is strong you're good to go. One more interesting tid bit. The shorter Mosins - M38, M44, will serve as a pretty good 'flame thrower' if you shoot ball ammo after dark. It's kind of fun to watch - it also ruins my night vision if I'm the shooter.

If you choose to hunt with a Mosin - I like Mosin ammo from Prvi Partisan (google it) They're from what used to be Yugoslavia, and make decent, cheap ammo. A lot of the surplus stuff is 'hardball' and not a good choice for putting Bambi down cleanly. Try some of the Prvi hunting ammo, priced pretty well and it always goes bang.

The closer they come the bigger they get, put your sights just under their chin and crank out as many rounds as you can in the time you have. Afterwards if there is one go find the Quilted Northern.

Not wanting to read this whole thread again but I thought I heard someone talk about owning a kahr cm9. I am thinking about one for ccw as its similar in size to my keltec pf9 but shoots quite a bit better and can be fitted with night sights. Any feedback??

Just got my safe (steelwater) and 1500 rounds (American from suggestions here) today. Got a chance to buy a sig 556 from a member, price is fair but saw a similar price new from a dealer so I'm wavering.

Also a group of us are looking at sig's newer 9mm 1911 type pocket carry. Called a nightmare, group rate is under 600 for each of us, I'm debating on jumping on that one. It is a sig and I like sigs, but it's a 6 month back order.

Anyway, what's the feed back on the orders so far? I also want to get some hunting rifles, an AK, shotguns (I have a mossberg pump pistol grip now). And more handguns (have a few) like smith's governor and a full 1911 and some others

Primers are making a comeback!!!!!!!!!

I just purchased 11K Remington small rifle primers along with another 5k Remington large rifle. I wish CCI would kick it in the ass, though.

If powder gets caught up things will be wonderful again!

Nikon M223 XR mounts are on sale right now. The XR mounts have the 20MOA slope so that your scope has a lot more adjustment range:
