Alex Smith: better passing rating than Rodgers, Roethlisberger, Rivers, Manning

This is after the Back To The Future 2 Sports Almanac lists results so even with that you couldn't have guessed.

except players make up a TEAM. Insert Bryan Hoyer and let me know how he wouldn't effect the teams wins as a PLAYER negatively. Alex style of play doesn't require 4k yards or 30+tds. It's nice if you are a fan of stats but if you watch the games you see it's not really necessary when you have a team that is balanced.

if you think this offense is Super Bowl-caliber without Smith.

Don't agree at all with the underlined. Has Alex led a 2 minute drill resulting in a score once in his entire tenure with us? He has certainly had chances to win on the last drive before and hasn't produced.

IF that last paragraph is directed towards me, then you are just making assumptions. I have never been anything but fair to Alex.
Didn't we have the most points scored in the last 2 minutes of a half in the league at one point? Seems like they touted that a couple weeks ago on the broadcast.

OK so you happen to choose one of the worst starters in football for your example? Even you, a staunch Alex apologist for years have to set the bar a little bit higher than that.

lol what qualifies as a "super bowl" caliber offense? Offense is skilled enough to get points against any defense.

I dunno...the Browns and Chargers game worried me. What if that happens in the playoffs?

My dad is a REAL negative guy and keeps telling me Smith is never gunna be the guy because of games like that. I tell him BUT WE WON but he just grumps along. Comes with being old I guess lol

I agree with Russell Wilson but I'm not sure Carson Palmer would have any more success with this offense. He'd chuck it to Maclin a lot more but he'd also get rocked early and often. Smith's mobility erases a lot of the O-line's issues.

I'm guessing Palmer would be out for the season, personally.

There's a reason you almost never see passer rating used by experts in any meaningful discussion, and why ESPN went so far as to create and attempt to popularize their own metric.

It's an offense that plays within its means. The Chiefs are a model for perfect complimentary football. All that coach speak about playing situational/complimentary football....the 2015 Chiefs are what they're talking about. This Chiefs team can absolutely go to the SB with this offense.

It's far from great, but it may not need to be great.
