Hahaha...really?

But measuring inequality is not simple. The choice of the measure of income and the measure of the household influences the results. Should income be measured before the government removes taxes, or after? Should income include government transfers such as food stamps, Medicare, Medicaid, unemployment benefits, and housing supplements? How about wealth?
Try again.

Jim Hammer, would we be a better country without our top 1% given that it would dramatically reduce income inequality?

If you taxed them at the rates you want to would they be as productive or move to other lower taxed countries?

I said at the levels you would want to tax them, with the top 20% paying all the taxes.

I never said top 20% pay all the taxes.

Increase the top 1% to a 50% tax rate. They're not going anywhere.

Edit: https://www.cnbc.com/2017/11/12/hund...our-taxes.html

Quote:
Over 400 millionaires and billionaires from the United States plan to send a letter to Congress this week petitioning on lawmakers not to cut their taxes — but to raise taxes on the wealthy, according to a Washington Post report.

Instead of calling for tax cuts for the rich, the letter urges lawmakers not to pass any tax bill that "further exacerbates inequality" and adds to national debt, the article said. The move comes at a time when inequality is at its peak since the 1920s and government debt levels are also high, the Post reported.

You'll see that when we have a more even distribution of people being productive in this country. It's not the top 20%'s fault that 80% of the country is dead weight.

Really, all someone has to do is look at me to realize the sad state of affairs in this country.

I don't know what the household income threshold is for the top 20%, but I'm sure we're in it.

Neither my wife or I have a college education, however I did attend a community college for about a year. Hell I didn't even finish high school.

How did we get here??

1. We both get up and go to work every day.

2. We only had one child.

That's pretty much it. That's all it takes to get in the top 20%. Go to work every day, don't have a bunch of kids you can't afford. And apparently that is too ****ing much to ask of 80% of this country.

The top 20% isn't the ****ing problem here. And **** all of you who say it is.

I don't want that. I would like to think my hard work earns me a little more than the average. Why else would I bust my butt?

You sound like you lean socialist. Have you really thought of the downfalls of that system? Margaret Thatcher said it best I have always thought when it comes to socialism....

Quote:
The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.
I have quoted that quote more than once here on CP so forgive me if I'm beating a dead horse here. But I have never once heard a good argument to the contrary. How does a socialistic society survive long term when I know I go to work all day to pay somebody else's way? Eventually, I just say the heck with it, I will sit on the couch like everybody else and wait for my paycheck, that eventually will never come because people quit giving a damn and trying.

Is there another way you see this playing out? I haven't heard a logical argument against my way of seeing it yet
