Always order the smallest size. It's the logical best value and the restaurant knows what it's doing. 65 67.71%

The ethics of get-it-yourself refills.

I was in a restaurant tonight, and it had a system in place that I like. They set the soda machine out in the dining room, and you can just go get your own refill. Getting my own soda refill is one of my key selection criteria for restaurants these days.

However, I have a conundrum. When I order a soda, I'm usually asked if I want a small, medium, or large.

Now, think about that for a moment. It's free refills with no shame. I don't have to ask someone for my refills, I just go get them.

So the logical approach here is to always order a small drink, right? Maybe I have to get up sooner to get my refill, but big deal. It burns calories to walk over there.

But at the same time, I feel guilty ordering a small soda if I'm already figuring that I'll get a refill. Essentially, I'm getting a large soda for the price of a small. Is this ethical? If I know that I want more than the XX ounces in a small size, should I order the size that closest approximates my need? Or should I look out for my own self-interest and always order the smallest size at the lowest cost?

Poll coming. You can get up and vote on it yourself.

By their account, they are finding a Tabasco bottle with the amount remaining that they intended to put on their burrito anyway, and taking the bottle home to put it on in the comfort of their own home, on their own plates, at their own table, etc., instead of standing at the counter and fussing around with their burrito in public and leaving a mess behind.

And as for 'some of you bastards,' no one here has said they did it [whether 'it' is taking a whole bottle, taking an empty bottle, or even putting Tabasco on Chipotle]. Discuss said he heard it happens and I mentioned reasons I heard other people used to explain why.

Someone's not paying attention.

Qdoba, not Chipotle.
Extra scoop of habanero at the counter, no bottled stuff.

Never have seen the appeal of Tabasco sauce. It's basically hot vinegar.

Good description. The appeal escapes me too.

Coincidentally, that's what me and my boys at the pool call your mother.

It's definitely one of the most vinegary hot sauces, but tabasco peppers have a definite flavor. Tabasco brand has 3 things going for it, stability, reliability, and longevity. It's the Budweiser of hot sauce, and you can keep it in your cupboard forever.

It's great on eggs, one the best pairings for a fried egg out there. Otherwise, it's just popular because it's around and familiar.

Some of the vinegar-based competitors have a little more flavor, but they mostly have less of a kick [Frank's, Cholula, Texas Pete's and Louisiana you can drink like kool-aid]. Sriracha has the kick, but can be too garlicky for some uses.

Tabasco is best for either eggs, . . . or when you simply need a vehicle for capsaicin.

When I need the kick, these are my preferred delivery systems.

or skip sauce altogether and sprinkle this

Drinking soda is unethical because it's unhealthy. So not good for you and a waste of money. Not a great mix with eating food either. Drink water or wine.

If I'm eating there I'll base my size decision on the amount of fries I want, and then refill as much as necessary until I'm satisfied. If I'm on the go then I'll decide based upon how long my drive is.
