Fiscal Restraint

I wish someone in Congress had some....

I just want to be clear to every Republican/right-winger that has argued that Democrats/liberals are responsible for our ridiculous deficit and national debt -- the tax cut bill and the budget increase that just got through a Congress that Republicans control, with a Republican POTUS signing into law (presumably), clearly establishes that it's all just talk.

NEITHER PARTY gives a damn about the deficit or debt, and neither party can claim any moral high ground on the topic.

Which sucks for all Americans IMHO.

Nothing to disagree with here.

As a representative of my business, I will always want to reduce my tax load, which directly affects my margins.

But to nuke taxes without touching spending is just completely ****ing retarded. And it's not like there aren't easy dollars out there to get on the spending side.

We've nuked taxes, and now we're increasing spending. HOORAY!

It's a shame democrats are holding our military hostage and extorting expanded non-military discretionary spending out of us. Thanks, democrats.

It isn't just defense. It's building a massive wall when improved border enforcement is fine and cheaper, it's suggesting a massively expensive mass deportation program instead of recognizing that focused amnesty and visa programs can reduce those costs while adding in tax revenue, it's a tens of billion dollar overzealous drug war and the billions we spend to create expensively overcrowded prisons. It's the seeming lack of interest, despite all the talk about swamp draining, to gut expensive crony capitalism. It's applauding government when they propose a trillion dollar infrastructure bill years after getting hung up on liberal efforts to do the same. It's railing on welfare and entitlements, then raising a shit fit when it threatens their own programs like Medicare, med expense deduction, and CHIP.

It's unfortunate that out two growing options are populist extremes. Both want huge government. Liberals want to tax and way overspend, conservatives want to cut taxes while adding way more government than needed.

Those things either aren't in the budget or, as IowaHawkeyeChief has pointed out, they're not really driving our debt problems. Focus.

I am all for funding an appropriate defense budget. I'm also for accountability. The lack of auditing and accountability has been astounding considering the amount of dollars involved.

Full agreement. This trickle down is going to fail as badly as Kansas's tax cut did.

They really need to cut defense spending significantly. I know it's a sacred cow but 700 billion, I guarantee you you can squeeze out 60 70 billion in fat.

Just like Brownback.

At least the economy of the country has an opportunity to respond quickly and lessen the deficit marginally. KS had no shot.
