Movies

Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

yeah, it was really good. The only thing that was odd was Tomei's character. not that it was bad etc, I just didn't understand the relevance of her character in the plot etc.

the series of books by Michael Connelly this was a part of are great. A shame Connelly will never sell the movie rights to the Hieronymous Bosch character....

The only down side was the length, it go's on & on & on.

But the best of the lot was easily Ironclad, its the best mix of story, production values & length of the eagle & the ultra-realistic battle scenes of Centurion. You really get it all in this one, castle siege warfare, open field battles, of course awesome locales... but the kicker is the battle realism... i mean, THIS is what it must have looked like, the butchery is just incredible. One particular scene where the hero tells his men to clear him a path on the ramparts of a castle wall to get at some Norman siegers who'd made it over the wall was pure. awesomeness. You really see what a power stroke from a broadsword would do to a man.
Gotta give my review for Ironclad a D- for failing to mention Paul Giamattis AWESOME performance as King John, his rant on being a king to the always powerful Brian Cox is pure, maniacal genius. That scene is worth the price of the rent alone, trust me.

Also caught Where the Wild Things Are last night, couldnt have loved it any more. The book was always a top favorite as a kid & the movie doesnt disappoint. It looks exactly like it should. If you want to feel like a kid again, check it out.

Anyone seen Red State yet? Just got done watching it myself and I must say I thought it was very well done. I enjoyed it alot. For those that don't know it is the newest movie from writer/ director Kevin Smith and it is his first attempt at the horror genre. Of course there's some subtle humor written in being a Kevin Smith movie and all. The acting was quite good as well. It stars Michael Parks, John Goodman (no, not dead) and Melissa Leo. It's kind of Kevin Smith's fictional take on a horror movie based off of the outrageousness of Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church. It seemed almost like the type of movie Quentin Tarantino would direct, and not something I would expect from Smith. Anyways, I would suggest all and any fans of the genre to give it a watch and I think you'll be pleasantly suprised.

Just finished it. It was really good. (And nothing like anything KS has done before) Goodman was excellent.

On a more disappointing note, word is that Red State was going to be the second to the last movie Smith directs. Apparently he's gonna direct one more movie and then retire from the directing stage of the industry. Such a shame from one of my favorite and in my opinion underrated writer/director.

He might take some time off, but he'll be back. The guy loves what he does.

He's just a bit sensitive. He takes bad reviews personally.

No, but speaking of Adrian Brody i did see a movie with him & Forrest Whitaker last night called The Experiment.

Think Lord of the Flies meets Abu Ghraib meets one of the Jokers social experiments, pretty sure it bombed at the box office but i thought it was very thought provoking.
