My rankings are below. My initial reaction is that you don't get much house for the money in Maine. I would've assumed that it was less expensive since it's so rural.

Cumberland - Great house from 1740, and while it's on 25 acres you can also walk to some restaurants, which is kind of unique. I like visiting really old houses, but I'm torn on whether I'd want to live in a house this old, because it kind of limits one's decor. However, in this case I'd go for it. Close call, but I would narrowly pick this over Bangor.

Bangor - Classic older home nicely located near a river and restaurants. It doesn't blow my mind, but it's very livable and pleasant. I can go for this house.

Kittery - Nice two-house setup so one could be my mancave or guest house. You can walk to some stuff or you can boat to Portsmouth, which is a really nice town. I'm intrigued by the access to Portsmouth. I could live here, but I think some of the other houses fit my lifestyle better.

Kingfield - Big house, not particularly my style but nice, and it's got very nice views of the hills. You can walk to a small town even though it's on a 40-acre site, which again is unusual. I could live in this house, but it's not quite #1 in this heat.

Georgetown - It's a pretty cool house, but it's got some mixed elements that don't really work for me. I like the modern wood, but not alongside classic red brick. It's not really near much, so I'll pass on this once.

Kingfield for me, and not one of the others. I love the 40 acres and views, plus the massive amount of firewood in the barn. Lemme at it!

Proximity to civilization would be an important consideration when moving to Maine, So Bangor is the obvious decision.

While not as much land as I'd like the Georgetown house it just way too cool to pass up. I LOVE that house even though the deck needs a rub down and a coat of stain pretty badly.

Ya think someone who owns a house like could afford to upgrade his PC monitor to an LCD.

Kittery is amazing and completely embodies Maine. Rainman could sit on the deck and unleash a torrent of witty posts and goofy polls upon us, I think it would unlock his full potential and serve as his Walden Woods. As an added bonus, an apricot beamer would really pop in the driveway during autumn.

I will say though the wood choices inside are strange, looks like a mish mash of oak and pine which doesn't really work in my opinion.

I think that's actually the classic TV/VCR combo, it seems to have a DVD player next to it and they also have a tube TV in their bedroom. Funny how I thought the same thing, but the owners appear to be up there in age and the reason they probably have a $1mm casa is due to being ultra misers and rockin 30 year old tvs their entire life. I bet the driveway has a pristine champagne or white 1992 Buick/Caddy in it.

I went through the rest of the photos after posting that and noticed the late 90's TV in the bedroom as well. I guess with all those books they don't watch too much TV and may not even have internet.

Now stain your deck dammit! That drives me crazy.
