Bond film called Skyfall

The title of the 23rd James Bond film has been confirmed as Skyfall.

The latest 007 adventure will star Daniel Craig for the third time. Leading ladies have been confirmed as French actress Berenice Marlohe and Naomie Harris.

Skyfall is being directed by Sam Mendes, who won an Oscar for 1999's American Beauty.

Mendes said the storyline will take the secret agent to London, China, Turkey and Scotland.

It will see Bond's loyalty tested to M, his superior, while espionage headquarters MI6 faces an attack.

The movie, which sees the return of Dame Judi Dench as spy boss M, will also star Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Javier Bardem as the villain of the piece.

It will be released in the UK on 26 October 2012.

Craig told reporters in London that the cast would start filming sequences for the new movie later on Thursday.

Much speculation about the new film has focused on what Mendes will bring to the franchise, with some suggesting he will tone down - or even abandon altogether - the action sequences.

But the director denied that this was the case. He told reporters in London that the "fantastic script" had "all the elements of a classic Bond movie, including - to quell any rumours - lots of action".

When asked what fans could expect from the latest film, he added: "The movie will reveal everything, and there's lots of surprises."
Producer Barbara Broccoli said no-one had yet been chosen to write and perfom the Bond theme tune.

Financial troubles

Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the first Bond movie, 1962's Dr No.

James Bond is one of the longest-running franchises in film history, but Bond 23 will mark the end of a four year gap.
The last 007 outing was in 2008's Quantum of Solace, directed by Marc Forster.

Work on the 23rd film was suspended in April 2010 because of uncertainty over the company's future.

The franchise had been on hold amid financial troubles, with MGM filing for bankruptcy protection last November.

A rescue deal and restructuring plan put US firm Spyglass Entertainment at the helm of MGM, which had struggled due to several box office flops and a DVD sales slump.

Craig - who made his Bond debut in Casino Royale in 2006 - is the sixth actor to play the British secret agent in the official Bond series.
Sir Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Sir Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan preceded him in the iconic role.

Casino Royale, was the most successful instalment in the franchise's 49-year history, making $594m (£385m) worldwide.

You're aware this is a Bond movie, right? This is the same series that cast Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist and gave us Grace Jones as a girl baddie.

I realize that, I was simply talking about the elements of the movie which kept it from being a masterpiece. (Or among my favorites for the year.)

That's what I got from it, it felt a little too Home Alone. Instead of Bond being a badass and taking guys out with just his guns, he has Judy Dench stick some nails in a chandelier and flip the switch. While putting some shotgun shells underneath the floorboards for good measure.

You have to be kidding. The scenes in Scotland are a visual feast. Especially at night.

The same goes for the stuff at night in the high-rise building chasing the assassin. Just gorgeous to look at.

I think the cinematography was Oscar worthy. When Bond is approaching the casino on the boat was shot very well.

Another weakness of the movie for me was the way they baited Silva to go to Skyfall. If Q's breadcrumbs are so convincing that Silva storms the home by that night, why not place M in a safehouse ten miles away and allow Bond to take care of business without any risk to M? Silva was obviously convinced that M was there, so what was the point of risking her life and eventually killing her?

It's the classic trap seen in Return of the Jedi, where the Emperor fools the rebels to attack the death star by giving them the... actual weaknesses to his battle station. Why not tell the rebels that the shield generator is on the other side of Endor? That way, the rebels attack, and there is 0% risk that the death star is harmed. Bleh.

Watched it last night, so now I'm clicking on the spoilers.

This was my exact complaint.

It was a good movie, but in the end

It may not even be accurate to call Bond an 'inneffective' hero; he may have been downright counterproductive. He led Silva right to M when there was absolutely no reason not to just plant M 10 minutes down the road. Hell, put her in the church from the start and there's no flashlight to pick up.

The only counter-argument is that M vociferously refused to 'show tail' and perhaps Bond knew there was no chance he could just drop her off. She was going to do everything she could to ensure she took part in Silva's defeat. That certainly makes sense given how fiery M's character has always been.

She'll be a loss for the franchise. I'm guessing she was just done playing the character.

Bond thought he'd have a full arsenal of weapons when he got to Skyfall, and only learned that the guns had been sold after he got there.

Sure, I have no real problem with M going out swinging...though it was only because she missed her shot at the baddy that eventually iced her.

The problem I have is that she went out because, like it or not, Bond kinda ****ed up. That's the suck of it all.

I agree, but..

I believe her death would have come as much more of a shock had Silva taken her life at the courthouse. Silva could have turned on the whole of MI6 at that point, and Bond could have hunted him down for vengeance. The movie's tension never seemed to rebound after the courthouse scene.

Finally saw it tonight. Really, really enjoyed it. Love how it basically completes a Bond Origin trilogy with Craig. They even tied it to the past with the office and leather door at the end. Then the gun barrel and Bond theme to close it out gave me full on wood!

About the only thing I didn't care much for was Bardems performance. It reminded me of Walkens over the top weirdo in View to a Kill.

I also thought that Mendez and the Writers underused Bardem's potential as a villain.

I probably clearly audibly heard 50% of Bardem's lines. And that's sad because I really wanted to hear what he had to say.

Oh.......classic how they brought back the old school Aston Martin, then used the grill guns to mow down an army of baddies. Sweeet!!! Even a funny reference to the ejection seat.



BTW, where do bad guys get a small army of thugs to be loyal to them and why do they remain loyal? Does the bad guy promise them an island of gold or something??
