Agreed. We'll see what Google can do. I'm sure Apple wants to move more cloud based too, so the media rights holders may have no use but to cave here soon.

If you want Android, and Honeycomb specifically, to compete with Apple, then the entire Android community needs to move beyond this idea that hacking or tricking the phone is an acceptable alternative to real functionality.

There are also situations where a non-internet solution is needed. Maybe download a movie or two to watch on a flight?

As for Blockbuster, I didn't even know they still existed.
While people may not like it, the ability to download to mobile devices will be gone within a few years. Possibly sooner.

I agree, to some extent. We may be branching off topic a bit here, but ah well.

I'd love to see a move more towards a world where your data follows you around, and Google probably has the best chance of making that happen. You could argue that so far Apple has come the closest. You can have a computer, iPhone, iPod, and iPad, with some level to integration between them.

On some devices, it might make sense to have all your media stored physically (computer, iPod), but others not so much (phone, tablet).

But as we branch out from having one device to more, companies have to start creating ways to "handoff" data between them. A small example, but one that drives me crazy every single day. If I'm talking on Facebook Chat with someone at my desk, I should be able to open up Facebook on my phone and transition seamlessly. And then back again. I'm sure most people never realize or bother to need this functionality, but it drives me insane. Once in a blue moon it works as I want.

Why are we still having to plug iPods physically into our computers? If I go for a run with my iPod, or listen to podcasts in the car, and then come home to my laptop, I shouldn't have to plug my iPod in to sync the two up to date on what's been played. Imagine if your email worked that way.

Obviously, social networks and media offer the most obvious and easiest applications, but it applies to nearly everything.

THAT'S the stuff that impresses me - especially when you start talking about having four devices you use everyday. If Google or Apple would start focusing more on improving the relationship between using your tablet, phone, and laptop every day, I'd be far more impressed than with more RAM and FFCs.

This has NOTHING to do with your hard on for bashing Flash.. it has to do with the fact that since 10.2 is almost ready.. why waste time even making a 10.1 version for Honeycomb...
The Xoom looks nice. Flash should be available next month. I read that somewhere. $800 is still too much though.

They could use a version that isn't specifically tailored to the Tegra 2, but they won't, because it would be jittery and suck up battery life. That's exactly why it isn't included on Apple devices. When Flash can make a stable product on an Apple platform, Apple will include it.

The whole thing just reeks of irony. Remember when people were hating on the iPhone because it didn't have Copy/Paste or SMS messaging at one point? Didn't stop them from saying that the device sucked, even though it got the features and implemented them just fine later on.

So, you'll pardon me if I take the time to find the hypocrisy hilarious.

The Apple hate/butthurt in here is strong. Probably the same folks who would tell you how much Gatorade sucks, and there's much better options in the marketplace now.

And your argument on Flash performance is dead on... if you are living in 2009. It simply isn't the case right now. I haven't seen any issues on my EVO. Have you seen how well Flash works on the Android 2.2 tablets? The FACT that you won't own up to is that Adobe fixed a number of the issues you are whining about. I am not a fan of Adobe by any measure, but the did a great job with Flash 10.1

All of that being said, I don't care for the Xoom. I'm not a fan of Motorola in general. #1 they are releasing it about a month too soon #2 they have it overpriced

I fully expect the new crop of Honeycomb tablets that will be released in April/May/June to make the Xoom obsolete in a hurry.
Yep. I have flash on my Droid1 running froyo. Works great.

It is funny. My avatar might lead someone to believe I dislike Apple. I dont. To be honest, I'm not familiar with their product. I do, however, like to piss off Apple fanboys.

Is the iPad the only one that doesn't require a monthly contract?

They all have wifi but these new ones, at lease so far, seem to require the contract whether you want it or not.

not exactly, you can buy the Xoom for $799 WITHOUT a contract and it works on wifi just fine.. or pay $599(i think) if you sign a 2 year contract with Verizon.

The Xoom doesn't offer a wifi ONLY version like the iPad... yet... but that doesn't mean you have to use the 3g capability.
