Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

Just picked up a .22 rifle. Any suggestions on somewhere I can get .22LR ammo? Local places either are out or are too high priced.

Close to a Cabelas?

1. Sign up for 22LR alerts in wikiarms. The good posters in this forum taught me about wikiarms.com.

2) Wait till they have a sale. They do frequently.

3) Purchase 500 round blocks.

4) Pick up to save shipping. Sales tax is cheaper than shipping.

Using this method, I've built a reserve of 4.5K rounds in just a few months at around 7-9 cents per round.

If no cabelas, wikiarms often has vendors sending bucket of bullets (1.4K rounds) that can be shipped cheaply.

Good luck.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Can you order online from Cabela's and then pick up in store? I'm in Topeka. Nearest Cabela's is 50 minutes away.

That is how I do it.

My Cabelas is about the same distance as yours. Usually the online ad reads you are limited to one 500 block; but I've been able to order one each in two separate orders. Make sure you select "local pick up" when selecting shipping method.

Then about about two weeks later, they email you to come pick up. You have about 2-3 weeks to pickup before they start calling you and nagging.

Good luck!

Just "Paying it Forward". Bwana and others taught me how to find good ammo deals on this sub-forum.

It was a perfect day for some outdoor shooting. Went out to the boonies and did some blasting with some buddies. Here's what I brought along, and some thoughts on each one:

Mossberg 590A1 12 gauge shotgun - Shot it for the first time today. I almost forgot how fun it is to own a scattergun. Its been a couple years since I had one in the stable. Its a heavy gun, but that is what you get with the 590A1 series Mossbergs. I couldn't get used to the factory fore end. I'll have to swap it out with something more comfortable.

Remington 1903A3 30-06 - Shot this for the first time today also. I used some Remington Core-Lokt hunting ammo, and the recoil was minimal. I expected it to kick more. Ordered a bunch of 30-06 and plan on shooting it a lot this year.

Ruger American Rimfire Compact rifle .22LR - I haven't shot this one for at least several months. Its a light and compact bolt-action 22, and takes 10/22 mags. Seems more accurate than my 10/22. Definitely need to take it out more often.

Springfield EMP 1911 9mm - This is officially my favorite 9mm. Fits in my hands nicely. Its pretty damn accurate considering it has a 3" barrel. I take it with me every time I go shooting.

S&W 686-Plus .357 magnum Another new gun that I'm shooting for the first time. It has a 3" barrel and handles really well. I noticed no additional recoil compared to my 4" barrel 686. And the 7-shot cylinder is convenient. S&W should make more of their 6-shot revolvers into 7-shot revolvers.

I was going to post this in DC, but figured I'd drop it here instead. Even though this guy was a little too clownish and aggressive for me, I'm starting to appreciate some of these guys quite a bit more than I used to. It's a long video but if you minimize it and just let the audio play it's not too terrible to listen to.

What was that guy trying to prove? I couldn't understand half of what he said due to the distortion in the video.

Dude is making a bad point. He's taking a big chance walking even close to a school with a rifle. Also, he's rude. Do police swear an oath to the Constitution? I thought that was just the military.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Sure, it's legal, but people that do that are just stupid IMO. They aren't swaying ANYONE to their side. They're just making it easier for people to generalize all gun owners as "gun nuts".
