I managed to get the wife and kid up and out of the house before the 45 seconds, just barely....
It was really spooky dark and quiet and the street lights and peoples lights were flickering on and off

actually in a horror movie type of way - that must have been sort of cool to see that - I'm a weirdo though - so I like seeing flickering lights and other odd shit like that. It's like staring natural phenomenon right in the brownies.

it was a trip and very cool and the rolling motion of the ground for such a long period of time is just nuts....makes you appreciate the earth's power

Youre supposed to stay inside and let the house fall on top of you or the gas fill the house and explode?
You go out You shut off the gas At least thats what I have been told to do all my life

I'd rather be outside than inside.

Forgive me for this - I'm in a weird weird mood right now - I can imagine - back around 2000ish - Norcross Ga. had a 3.5 or something. I don't really recall it's measurements - It happened at like 5:30AM - My bed shook and I was wondering if I had been possessed - ha ha - but no seriously - it's a helpless feeling and most definitely odd. I like the aftermath story though. I like to observe weird shit like that. Cultures and other things, maybe even religions, reactions, mother nature - weather ........ My gosh just so many things you see. I am a huge Harmony Korine fan for this very reason - he likes to capture 'happenings' and 'reactions' - all within certain cultures. Sorry I'm feeling like deep discussion - I'm going to (LOL) log off for a bit. |

Here's some advice from the State of California about how to prepare for and survive a major earthquake:

During an Earthquake
If you're indoors, stay there. Get under -- and hold onto --a desk or table, or stand against an interior wall. Stay clear of exterior walls, glass, heavy furniture, fireplaces and appliances. The kitchen is a particularly dangerous spot. If you’re in an office building, stay away from windows and outside walls and do not use the elevator. If you're outside, get into the open. Stay clear of buildings, power lines or anything else that could fall on you. |

Theres a ton of conflicting info out there..
If I was in some apartment building or bigger structure, I wouldnt try to get outside....or if stuff was falling and breaking I might try to cover But the safest spot is outside, away from structures.... Theres so many variables the best thing to do is be prepared and have a plan... I was pretty happy with ours, was safe and had the family free and clear of structure/power lines in literally about 30 seconds *Theres also been lots of studies that say to NOT go into a doorway, which is what they said to do for a long ass time if you couldnt make it outside
