What was the name of.........?

For us older dudes.
What was the name of a toy that I had in grade school, early-mid seventies?
It was like a big yo-yo that was red or yellow and could expand. It functioned like a yo-yo, but could expand to a much larger size . It has a large string, almost a rope, and fabulous tricks could be performed after learning. The Valium, Vicodin and vodka cocktail has destroyed my memory at 53 years of age. Tried a google search to no avail. Tried dousing myself in anti-freeze and climbing a flaming AIDS tree but that didn’t help. My blinker fluid and fetzer valves are ok. Even tried gauze pads and Quaker State but no help. Any and all answers appreciated . TIA.

Yup. When I was an adolescent my grandma bought a pair of these for my cousin and I. We used them as weapons - hunting each other around her house. My fondest memory of them is nailing him in the head with a perfect shot while simultaneously blasting my eye with the jet of water, using it like a pistol.

Heh oh yes, I had a couple of those.

I also went through plenty of these.



Mostly what I can remember of them, is the fact they would go down the stairs a few times, bend and be unusable.

I may have liked taking them apart and reassembling as much as racing them.
Cleaning the copper rails on the bottom with a pencil eraser. If you had a fast car you'd take it apart to put the coolest body on it.

The more I reflect on it, those things were honestly the best bang for Moms buck I can remember... I'd get a new set every Christmas or so, to the point that I could create a track that dominated my/was limited to
what I could create in my room

And you're absolutely right... some cars just soaked up the electricity better, they were faster and even handled better

I sincerely feel blessed to have grown up without a ****ing computer screen in my face

Oh hells yeah, I had the wind up Evel... and quite frankly, that dude doesnt know what the hell he is doing

I am practically a walking time-capsule when it comes to 70's toys, and this..."thing" is ringing NO bells whatsoever.
I'm inclined to believe this was a one-off or limited production item and not a mass-produced toy.
