Django Unchained

Saw this last night. LOVED IT.

Kinda long (its almost 3 hours long) but it is really entertaining and really funny.

Has anyone else seen this yet?

I can see that. But being honest, its almost impossible to live up to Pulp, Resevoir, and the kill bills. Those are hard as hell to live up to.

I liked it though.

I have to say, this was perhaps the first QT movie that can be termed cinematically gorgeous. There were some stunning scenes in KB I/II, and Basterds had an uncanny ability to feel as if it were actually filmed in the 40s, but frame by frame Django is truly beautiful to watch.

I am a big True Romance fan and looking back, the cast was insane. The main actors (Slater and Arquette) don't knock your socks off, but if you look at the bit players in the film:

Brad Pitt
Sam Jackson
Gary Oldman
Tom Sizemore
Chris Penn
Christopher Walken
Dennis Hopper
James Gandolfini
Val Kilmer (in it for a split second)
Michael Rappaport
Bronson Pinchot

Some of my favorite Tarantino dialogue is in there (Slater and Oldman, Hopper and Walken, the pre-fight dialogue between Gandolfini and Arquette).

not that it changes much, but True Romance was not directed by QT. It was only written by him. Directed by Tony Scott. Still a wonderful movie though.

I must admit, I haven't seen that yet. I must check that out.

I know that, but it's still a Tarantino movie to me. If he didn't off himself, I would want Tony Scott directing all of QT's scripts.

True Romance is awesome. I think originally QT had some issues with it, but he's come around. I think Scott changed the original ending?

The original ending was more Reservoir Dogs and less happy happy.

I'd like to know what those problems were.....the only negative thing about it IMO was that it started a little slow.

Well, as stated above, Scott changed the ending and I'm sure a few other things. It was the first script he ever sold so he was probably sensitive to it. Another early one he sold was Natural Born Killers. I've heard he hated that because Oliver Stone changed that a ton.

I just recently found out QT wrote Natural Born Killers. I'd like to think Stone changed a lot, because I thought it was terrible.

He hated it so much he took his name completely off the project.

I finally saw True Romance, not bad at all, definitely a QT ending, reminded me a bit of the ending in Django.

The ending in the movie wasn't the ending in the original script.
