Sullivan: "Why Do Democrats Feel Sorry for Hillary Clinton?"

A question I've been asking here myself:

Why Do Democrats Feel Sorry for Hillary Clinton?

Andrew Sullivan

.....And everywhere you see not an excoriation of one of the worst campaigns in recent history, leading to the Trump nightmare, but an attempt to blame anyone or anything but Clinton herself for the epic fail. It wasn’t Clinton’s fault, we’re told. It never is. It was the voters’ — those ungrateful, deplorable know-nothings! Their sexism defeated her (despite a majority of white women voting for Trump). A wave of misogyny defeated her (ditto). James Comey is to blame. Bernie Sanders’s campaign — because it highlighted her enmeshment with Wall Street, her brain-dead interventionism and her rapacious money-grubbing since she left the State Department — was the problem. Millennial feminists were guilty as well, for not seeing what an amazing crusader for their cause this candidate was. And this, of course, is how Clinton sees it as well: She wasn’t responsible for her own campaign — her staffers were. As a new book on her campaign notes, after Clinton lost the Michigan primary to Sanders, “The blame belonged to her campaign team, she believed, for failing to hone her message, energize important constituencies, and take care of business in getting voters to the polls.” So by the time the general-election campaign came round, they’d fix that and win Michigan, right?

In case you forgot just how somewhat unhinged the 2016 election was, Let us review the facts: Clinton had the backing of the entire Democratic establishment, including the president (his biggest mistake in eight years by far)....

In the middle of the election, she derided half of Republican voters as "deplorable". She lost Wisconsin, which she didn't visit once. I could go on.

And so I find myself wondering at odd times of the day and night: Why is Trump in the White House? And then I remember. Hillary Clinton put him there.

That said its understandable they blame Trump on the unholy ignorance of the drooling masses in the unwashed suburban enclaves of greedy republicans and the mouth breathing white people in rural America. Those people are incapable of evaulating alternatives, seeking enlightened viewpoints and reaching a logical conclusion based on fact not emotion.

Daily, they see that Trump is not some stumblebum unaware of the job needs. Instead he has been steady after the very things he said were important, he has begun in many wsys to rebuild a government focused on the benefits to America and or allies. And the dismanteling of the Obama disaster.

Trump is doing exactly what the electorate wanted. And the Progressives have not found a way to erode the Trump electorate and they cant. There is nothing the egalitarian left can point to to bring R's and Conservatives into their camp.

The deal was cut back in 2007, Bill campaigned for Obama and in return Obama made sure Hillary was the next DNC candidate.

They sealed their fate years before this election.

As has been said many times, you can thank Obama for Trump. Between his shitty policies and his making sure Hillary was the next candidate he is as responsible as anyone or Trump's election.

Pretty comical now.

This. I also am pissed at the Democrats for holding the coronation before an honest primary.

I just want to know when the Trump voters are going get over her? They are the only ones talking about her any more. Sad.

Oh about the time liberals give up on the Russian collusion thing is my guess.

The fact Dems think there is a story there and ignore Hillary's ties and Obama's overtures to Putin is hypocritical its ridiculous.

I have sad many times, Trump supporters will act reasonably as soon as his haters do.

I'm more than ready to be over her, and let the country's grace and forgiveness for powerful scoundrels shield her from prison to live out her days as an anonymous doting grandmother.

The question is, when are the opposition going to resign themselves to that fact that Trump has the next four years? Because mentions of Hillary are only to remind you of the consequences of the grousing that 'we need someone different,' given she was the sole alternative. That, and the constant refrain of 'this is unprecedented' when everything happening has precedent, and there's no grounds to argue that it wouldn't be as bad or worse with Hillary installed, save for your own satisfaction and satiation that inure you to missteps if they happen under the 'correct' leadership.

If you read the article, Andrew Sullivan (a Trump hater) mentions how she's being invited into the public square so often lately. And even whispers about her running for other office, and maybe Chelsea too.

So this wasn't written by a Trump fan, nor is it out of the blue as you suggest.

Trump has four years, no doubt. And every day every action will be scrutinized just like every other president. Do you expect anything different?

Are you going to pretend that Obama was criticized 'like every other president?'

Heck, are you going to pretend that Hillary was promoted in her campaign 'like any other president?'

Identity politics has intervened since the days of Ford, Carter, Bush I.

Obama was criticized every day on Chiefsplanet and every day on faux news. White christians appears to be the most popular brand of identity politics.

Your dismissal illuminates my point.

You feel that all Obama criticism is blind White Christian hate.

I responded to two different points in your post. You are the one trying to stitch them together. I don't.

I don't know one non - fringe Democrat who defends Hillary now and almost none who were happy she was the nominee.

You were the one who summarize them in a singular reply. But if you wish to break off the second part, do you think the White or the Christian identity predominates?

If it's the former, I disagree.

If it's the latter, Christian isn't an identity in the sense that Black or Female or Gay is. It's an identity in the sense that Socialist or Libertarian, Liberal or Conservative, is, in that they have opinions based on their beliefs as to how society should be comported.

Identity politics arises from the belief that there are types of people, based demographics determined at birth. Some types of people are oppressors and some types are oppressed, and oppressors are always wrong and the oppressed are always right.
