Donald Trump just made it legal to shoot and kill hibernating bears in Alaska.

Hunters can also now use aircraft to track and shoot the bears, after the Obama-era wildlife protection laws were repealed by the current administration.

Under the previous law introduced by Barack Obama, it was illegal for hunters to use aggressive tactics.

These included trapping wolves while they were at their dens with cubs, tracking bears with aircraft, killing bears that were hibernating, luring bears with food to kill them at point-blank range, or trapping bears with wire snares.

This, this and more of this. It's amazing how much drama people are drumming up about the repeal of regs that are only a few years old. According to them, before Obama we were living in Victorian England.

I hope Trump goes up to Alaska and on live television pulls a bear cub out of its den, breaks it's neck and beats the hibernating mother bear to death with the cub corpse just to see more snowflake tears.

That's another part of what I'm getting at.. what is the problem?

http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm...withbears.main

Reading up on Alaska Fish and Game's official website I can't find anything about them being a true issue. Legitimately everything I'm reading highlights how elusive and shy they are.

Also, there's a big difference between a ubiquitous insect species like wasps and threatened and endangered keystone animals like bears and wolves. Deer? Rabbits? Ants? Mosquitoes? Go ahead and exterminate away (within reason). Those populations will have no trouble recovering. Bears, wolves and the like? Maaaaaybe we should think about not killing them so frequently.

I think this has to do with the abundance of oil right in that area + the building tensions to start drilling..

Actually they are neither threatened nor endangered. They are more like coyotes or closer to wasps than tigers and mountain gorillas. That is the whole concept of predator control. Maintaining a balance between predator and prey for a healthy population. Also to gave balance for hunters and subsistence hunters in their state. Btw many people rely on hunting to literally survive in thier state.

I repeat their state.

Seems pretty legit to me.

You can see some species of bear and several species of wolves on the threatened and endangered list.

Look at the list and you see that the only relevant listing for Alaska is the polar bear.

Aren't grizzlies and gray wolves native to Alaska as well?

Or maybe you're saying the site doesn't list grizzlies and wolves as endangered or threatened in Alaska. In which case I'd have to think my point still stands.
