Donald Trump just made it legal to shoot and kill hibernating bears in Alaska.

Hunters can also now use aircraft to track and shoot the bears, after the Obama-era wildlife protection laws were repealed by the current administration.

Under the previous law introduced by Barack Obama, it was illegal for hunters to use aggressive tactics.

These included trapping wolves while they were at their dens with cubs, tracking bears with aircraft, killing bears that were hibernating, luring bears with food to kill them at point-blank range, or trapping bears with wire snares.

I can remember way back in the day my great-grandfather telling about how the wolves had to be fought right here in North Missouri. It was death to the wolves or death to the livestock. I was just a wee lad, but still remember it well. It's a shame folks from the city don't understand the basic concept. Do we eradicate the predator, or do we allow the predator to eradicate the livestock we as a nation depend on for food?

Oaklandhater, you are gonna have to take this one to a board that is frequented with city slickers who don't know any better.

Second, I understand everything you are saying. But as an avid hunter and outdoorsman who has lived my entire life in NJ, it has less to do with NJ and more to do with being a sheltered asshat that has never been anywhere near a forest. We had to fight for years with NJ government over the need for a bear hunt. Every year we have to fight to resume it. Anyone that screams about the bear hunt hasn't been within 50 yards of a bear in the wild (during bow season no less -- ).

From that noted right wing site: Snopes

Quote:
On 3 April 2017, President Trump signed H.J. Res. 69, a joint U.S. House and Senate resolution nullifying Obama-era regulations banning the use of certain “predator control” hunting methods on the 76.8 million acres of federally-protected national preserves across Alaska.

The repealed restrictions were enacted in 2016 by the Fish and Wildlife Service after years of disputes between the U.S. government and the state of Alaska over the legality of such practices as bear baiting, hunting via aircraft, killing hibernating bears, and “denning” (killing wolves, coyotes, and offspring in their dens) on or near federally protected lands....

...In reality, however, most of those practices were already prohibited to sport hunters under Alaska law, and some of them, including hunting coyotes in their dens and killing hibernating bears and cubs, were permitted to subsistence hunters even under the federal regulations.

The deeper issue all along was state vs. federal control of wildlife management. Despite support from scientific, environmental, and animal welfare advocacy groups, the federal restrictions were considered intrusive and unwarranted by many Alaskans. The state filed a lawsuit in January 2017 contending that the rules amounted to federal overreach, harming the ecosystem and citizens of Alaska...
http://www.snopes.com/2017/04/04/hou...-bears-alaska/

Basically, congress voted to repeal a Fish and Wildlife regulation that had not been voted on, and had been in effect for only about 7 months. Those losing their shit over this might want to take the time to think that through.

NJ is a cool as hell state. You guys have some awesome ag. And some seriously neat rural country and people. I always enjoyed my trips to the farm country and my interaction with crop producers there and hearing about the challenges they deal with.

Someday I will come hunt a Wild Turkey there as part of my goal to harvest a bird in each state with a Turkey season.

That said the OP is an asshat with no idea what he is posting. Its like he drops acid and is drawn to his basement keyboard where he posts this bullshit. He, Lex, BEP, and Dave have put on a world class ass showing today on here.

Here is a better article not featuring momma bears and cubs or wolves lying in a field of flowers.

Btw this isn't about hunters its about predator control.
that makes some sense

If you Google the topic, and look at a few titles and articles, you'll be treated to an excellent example of how the way something is written can slant the hell out of even a straight forward story.

I went searching and was gonna post it and ended up now, I'm watching the whole movie.

I'm sure you know more about this than me so I'll defer to you, but I just don't understand.

Don't predator populations depend on prey populations? Seems to me an overpopulation would be quickly stabilized once a lack of food source comes into play. Nature will always keep a balance.

I guess I just don't understand why the state is stepping in unless 1) livestock and farmland are being threatened or 2) people's lives are in danger. Are these bears really going around mauling humans and livestock at a high rate?

Correct.

Too many predators results in a shortage of prey populations, resulting in predators seeking out other types of prey, like livestock.

With hunting seasons, the populations can remain balanced while providing the most ideal scenario for all involved.
