If the Democrats win the senate...

Imagine this scenario:

Dems win the senate (not super likely, around a 30% chance)
Kavanaugh goes down (also probably around a 30% chance)

and they get control of the Senate with an open supreme court seat.

Then they say either:

a) We'll only confirm garland or
b) We'll only confirm someone to the left of garland

I'm sure everyone here would just "oh sure, fair's fair. That's within the rules of the senate." Right?

The Kavinator will be confirmed. He and RBG will co-host a raging kegger to celebrate.
R’s will pick up Senate seats and only lose a smattering of House seats.
That is all.

Now if the Dems win the Senate, which I really doubt, and RBG keels over, that would be interesting.

I could see nobody being confirmed to the SC for the remainder of Trump's term.

If your scenario plays out that way, I wouldn't be complaining about democrats refusing to carry out their constitutional duty the way democrats complained about McConnell. It would be their power to wield as they see fit and then it would be reviewed at the ballot box.

As for the choices offered, I'd tell Trump to hold at 4-4 until after he wins in 2020.

The likeliness of the Dems taking the Senate are very unlikely. If Kavanaugh isn't confirmed, it may be even less likely. I doubt Trump gets elected if there wasn't a Supreme Court seat up for grabs and the same people that came out for him then and going to be motivated to come out in force again. I think this was a dumb political move by the Dems. Even if Kavanaugh is not confirmed, you likely don't get the Senate and they confirm someone further Right and perhaps younger. I just don't think this was a smart hill to die on. Maybe I'll be wrong, I thought Trump was a mistake for Republicans too.

You can forget getting your ‘NOMINEE” through. The republicans will rip him/her to shreds. And when this happens, remember, YOU FASCIST ASSHOLES started this whole process.

You might be the first lefty I have seen admit that. And yes, the Supreme Court was a big part of my reasoning to vote Trump and would be again if a seat hangs in the balance. And by then, I may need a reason to vote Trump. He has done a lot I like, but damn, if he doesn't quit trying to outspend the libs I am gonna scream

But, to your point, the Supremes outweighs the budget/debt when it comes to my vote. I want both, dammit!! But if I can only have one, the Supreme Court it is.

SCOTUS seats are always in the balance. I hope people don't wait for an open seat to let that impact their voting choices.

Was just coming here to post that as this seemed the most appropriate thread.

If she's really voting no, then she's giving up. She knows she can't win so she's auditioning for MSNBC or some other job to keep her name out there in the hopes she'll get some kind of cushy executive level job if a Democrat ever wins office.

ND is out of play - that's a Republican W unless tape emerges of Cramer banging a 13 year old boy (and even then, the tape better be in High Def).

In fairness, ND was looking to be out of play for a few weeks now, so this doesn't change things a ton in that regard.

I said it from the beginning. In fact, there was one debate where Hillary made some specific comment regarding abortion and I turned to my wife and said, "That may have just cost her the election". There are a LOT of people who are single issue voters. Abortion has massive sway over people's feelings. I said a long time ago that Dems shouldn't take a stance on it. Let individuals in their own states make the call as they see it for their state. If they did that, I think Dems would destroy Repubs in elections. Won't ever happen though.

That broad (pretty well) knows she is done as a Senator. This will absolutely seal the deal.
