90% of the teams in the Big 12 went to bowls last year. The 10th has a BCS win to their credit. There isn't a better top to bottom football conference out there. Are the top teams as good as the top teams in the SEC right now? No. But your claim about formula is easily proven wrong.

When the tv deals the Big 12 has in place begin to lose value you will be right. We'll wait on that.

While I agree with you that one would think MU added value when it came to sports they simply don't. Which is incredible being that they have media markets in St. Louis and Kansas City to draw from.

CBS stated that MU adds no value for their TV deal and nothing negative has happened to the Big 12 since their departure. The rivalry aspect with Kansas was rough in the beginning but is being quickly forgotten. UT-A&M, Syracuse-UCONN, etc are all experiencing the same things.

I agree, I think there was enough bad blood to go around that this wasn't going to come back together nicely. The MU fan base was incensed, and there wasn't really going to be much leeway for a "cooling off period". I'm perfectly fine with the current setup. Don't mind those two schools one bit, but of course, a KU perspective is different than most schools.

KU needs a stage for its basketball program. Don't get me wrong, we really want a competitive football program again, but mostly we need a stage for our basketball program and now the B12 gives that to us without the fear of not getting well paid for it like other top conferences. That was the only real fear for KU the first time around. We wouldn't be able to maintain our standard without a top conference to showcase it in.

TCU/WVU - A&M/MU; doesn't matter much to us, we're still going to be one of the top basketball schools with chances to compete for national titles thanks to the current format. Hopefully, in that same time period, Weis can get our football program back to respectability. If instability comes again, I'm actually much more secure we'll find a happy home (hopefully the one we're already in) than when the first wave came around.

I see what you're saying, but Fox dictated we replace them with WVU who is a nightmare travel situation, a crappy school, with no history among the membership. Fox was essentially saying: "Ok, Mizzou is gone so we'll pick a comparable school for you" and WVU was it. We are a bit lucky they were available because the other options really sucked.

Why would CBS say anything else? Did you expect the, to say, "let us pay you more money for the same amount of content"?

CBS got no new inventory. They only got a slightly larger pool from which to pluck out the same amount of inventory as they had before. When you're talking about the SEC, they are already at max value in terms of matchups with national appeal. In that regard, adding USC and Ohio State wouldn't have mattered.

Fox wasn't looking for a comparable school to Mizzou. They were looking for the best property they could get. If Michigan had been available, it's not like they would have said, "don't take Michigan. They aren't comparable to Mizzou".

No. They simply aren't focusing on increasing the payout from CBS. Mizzou and aTm added more programming, but CBS doesn't get additional content.

WVU really does have a "better than decent" football program. After A&M the SEC was going to take them or MU. MU won out because of the population. WVU simply filled them in. Less people, better football.

What you're going to hear from SEC people is the attempt to get the SEC Network up and running. However the states in the south that will be the primary "subscribers" of this network simply don't have big populations and/or large valuable viewing audiences to advertisers. This is why the Big 10 network works.

The nation loves games like Alabama-Florida. LSU-Georgia, etc. But all those games get onto national TV anyway. We'll see how much "value" the SEC Network ends up having but I really don't see large cities across America being interested in Ole Miss volleyball. In the south they will watch anything. But how many cable TV's are there down there?

That's why they will keep expanding.

But they'll never have the footprint of the Big 10. They have a better product but less people who care.

The top team in the Big 12 is rated behind 5 SEC teams. The second best Big 12 team got hammered by the number 5 team in the SEC. The worst team in major conference football is in the Big 12. One of the vaunted bowl teams in the Big 12 went 6-7. The Big 12 had a losing record in bowl games and put one team in the BCS. The SEC went 6-3, had 2 teams in the BCS, and reeled off yet another National title.

When you say that the Big 12 is strong from top to bottom, what you really mean is the teams near the bottom of the Big 12 had better records than teams near the bottom of other conferences. It's true, but nobody cares.

Yeah, they haven't invented cable tv down here in the south yet. JFC.
