Answering The Home Phone In 2015 - How do you do it?

We all know most of us have at least one cell phone (perhaps two), and we increasingly communicate via SMS and MMS texts, and email. With that in mind the percentage of legit calls to your house from friends and family is WAAAAAY down compared to stupid calls from vendors so, in the day-and-age of all this technology and caller ID (that can be faked) how do you answer calls on the home line (if you still have one)?

Do you ever answer?

Do you pick up and hang up without saying "hello" (because the robots on the other end know the word "hello" (and some say it's an invite to talk in some legal sense of the word)?

Do you pick up and tell whomever to "**** off and fist their mother" then hang up?

Do you give the phone to your 3-year-old to talk to them for as long as they'd like, or place the phone in front of the family parrot or TV (tuned to an infomercial)?

Do you let the answering machine pick up?

What do you do?

If it's a salesperson, I try to sell them market research.

You can add pick up the phone and scream into it very loudly to the list of possible things you might do when Kissimmee, FL calls your house in Lee's Summit, MO.

Simply say "hello". The CID makes for a pretty good screener...for the most part, we usually don't answer unless we know who it is.

If it's a market research survey, you should always do it. It makes the world a better place.

Unless it's one of those automated ones, of course. Those things are terrible and the people who do them should go out of business.

Ooma premier allows you to block callers based on caller id but it's like 9 bucks a month

Soon enough that's going to be my answer too. My only fear is that they'll just more (even more) to cell phones because it's clear the "DO NOT Call LIST" concept failed. I guess if you've ever worked with the company there's a loophole that allows them to badger you.

We have one, but it's only for internet, or something like that. We live out in the sticks. I haven't answered the home phone in at least two years. I figure if they don't know my cell number, then I didn't like them enough to give it to them. So, I have no desire to talk to them

Excellent. My company just cancelled all company phones. So now I'm between, just using a Lync phone number.

I'm not to hip on another cell contract. I just don't use a phone that much anymore.
