My first game thread and the way things are going, I like the Royals odds this game.


Interesting fact for this game: Duffy is 3-0 with a 1.35 ERA in four career games at Target Field. Duffy has no explanation for his success there. "Just a coincidence, I'm guessing," he said. "I do like the park. It's really nice." This will be the first time Duffy will start in a team's home opener. "I just got to take the pill and throw it and keep it rolling for us," he said.

It was a pretty common sense stance. We were floundering around the trade deadline, we had 1/2 year left of Shields. If we could've landed an Addison Russell (Oscar Taveras) level prospect, it was a no-brainer.

But keep on deflecting. I was always a James Shields fan.

It's really quite weird the guy who predicted us to win 80 games wouldn't have wanted to trade James Shields around the deadline to get better for 2015. In fact, I'm not convinced you weren't one of the many (myself included) that were all for trading Shields for a top tier prospect.

Or, did the guy who predict 80 wins last year suddenly think the Royals were going to go on an insane run that went all the way to game 7 of the WS?

Admittedly, I have watched every single Royals game this far twice. I'll generally fast forward through the replays on my MLB.TV but yes, watching the Royals is my favorite thing to do and second place isn't really that close right now.

I'm just trying to figure out if I'm supposed to be ashamed by this?

Nah, do what you want to do. Besides, Royals fans waited far too long for the Royals to be good again. They're putting an actual, major league baseball team on the field for once. Hard not to get excited for it.

Yes, the Cardinals were highly unlikely to trade Oscar Taveras for 1/2 season of James Shields and 1.5 seasons of Greg Holland. But in that environment, it wasn't a crazy thing to suggest considering what the A's had just given up for 1/2 season of an inferior pitcher.

Yes, the Royals would have made out like bandits in that deal. They probably don't make the playoff run last year but also have added another great young player to the roster at a very low cost for a long period of time.

It didn't happen. Oscar Taveras died. James Shields played out the year with KC and Greg Holland still is a Royal. Let's move past it, shall we?
