Wade Boggs claims he drank 107 beers in a single day...

With over over 3,000 hits and a career batting average of .328, Wade Boggs was one of the greatest pure hitters in baseball history. Not as well-known is the crown Boggs holds as the game's greatest pure beer drinker. Legend has it that the Hall of Fame third baseman once drank 64 beers on a cross-country flight from Boston to Los Angeles.

Boggs only denies that the number was 64. He doesn't say if the real number was more or less, only that it was "a few Miller Lites." It may seem unbelievable to us mortals that one man could drink so many beers on a single cross-country flight, but a little digging will turn up plenty of information to support the legend. On a radio show interview, former relief pitcher Jeff Nelson said that Boggs absolutely would drink "50 or 60" beers on a cross-country flight, explaining that the tally would begin in the locker room before carrying over to the drive to the airport, the tarmac, layovers, and any other chance he got as the team was making their way from coast to coast. "It wasn't just an isolated incident," Nelson concluded. "He did it almost every time."

Last night, the topic came up again when Charlie Day stopped by The Tonight Show to discuss the new season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. In one episode, the gang tries to recreate Boggs's feat, and Boggs himself makes a cameo as part of a hallucination Charlie has when he's 30 beers deep. Day also claims that the stories about Boggs's drinking prowess are true, and that Boggs even told him that the actual number of beers he drank, the number he so smugly refused to divulge to Kornheiser, was 107.

Boggs went down on hookers, so who knows? Ha!

My buddy back in the day was close to 310 and about 6' 3". I've seen him pack down a case and a of Coors Light and hang a guy by one foot from the emergency escape stairs in Mandalay Bay Hotel who wouldn't stop taking pictures with his cell phone during a bachelor party. He was on a couple other substances at the time as well (coke) that helped him.

This guy was a total animal as in if you didn't know him you didn't talk or make eye contact. He made it another 12 pack and passed out.

Wade Boggs doesn't look like he ever broke 200lb. Hard to believe.

I don't know about this one, but I fully believe the story where he drank 64 beers on a delayed cross-country flight.

He deserved a HOF vote for that alone.

If Hamas can believe 64 with his intellect, then my whimsy can easily raise that to 107. Whats another 30+ pack?

Some of the worse alcoholics I know don't ever drink more than a case and a half a day even when they have a reason to try. 64 beers, yeah I can see that. 107? **** no. The guys blood alcohol level would be beyond death.....

If you go here: http://bloodalcoholcalculator.org/#LinkURL

Input Boggs playing weight of 190 pounds. 107 light beers. 22 hrs. Estimated blood alcohol is 1.229. You are very likely to die at 0.50 or higher. Yeah, no way in hell.

Now, it estimates 0.585 if you put in those same values but change the number of beers to 64. This is more reasonable. Yeah, he's very likely near death but at least its reasonable.

The Notre Dame estimator found here: http://oade.nd.edu/educate-yourself-...ac-calculator/

makes it even more unlikely. Enter male, 190 pounds, 22 hours, 1284 ounces (107*12) and 4.40% (Miller Lite) and estimates a blood alcohol content of 1.997.

Point is, Boggs would be dead.

Some of it depends on the level of alcohol dehydrogenase in your system. The reason why Native Americans are notoriously worse drunks is because they have a much lower level of that enzyme in their system.

If Boggs has an unusually high level of it and he drinks a lot on top of that, drinking 64 beers in eight hours is achievable.

Here's a comparison:

If Sauto drinks three fifths, that is 3*750 (mL)*40% alcohol by volume, which comes out to 860 mL of alcohol

If Boggs drank 64 beers at 12 ounces per beer at 3.5% alcohol by volume and 29.5 mL/oz. then he would consume about 793 mL of alchol.
