The one thing we can look forward to: the league's best OL.

Last year, PFF gave the Chiefs the 12th best line.

That's even with Albert missing games, Ryan Lilja playing center, Jeff Allen playing poorly, and Stephenson having to play left tackle for five games.

12th best line.

Now, the Chiefs are better. If you're a fan of the trenches, and I know most of us on this site are not, but I unapologetically am:

Albert's healthy. Hudson's back. Allen's getting competition from Geoff Schwartz, and we're replacing Winston with Eric ****ing Fisher.

LT: Albert
LG: Allen/Schwartz
C: Hudson
RG: Asamoah
RT: Fisher

Here are last year's top 5 OLs:

1st: 49ers

LT: Joe Staley
LG: Mike Iupati
C: Jonathan Goodwin
RG: Alex Boone
RT: Anthony Davis

2nd: Patriots

LT: Nate Solder
LG: Logan Mankins
C: Ryan Wendell
RG: Dan Connelly
RT: Sebastian Vollmer

3rd: Jets

LT: D'Brickashaw Ferguson
LG: Willie Colon
C: Nick Mangold
RG: Matt Slausen
RT: Austin Howard

4th: Broncos

LT: Ryan Clady
LG: Zane Beadles
C: JD Walton
RG: Louis Vasquez
RT: Orlando Franklin

5th: Cleveland Browns

LT: Joe Thomas
LG: Jason Pinkston
C: Alex Mack
RG: Shaun Lauvao
RT: Mitchell Schwartz

I think we can make a run at this group in 2013.

Hell no.

But Jimmy Clausen had fundamental flaws in his mechanics, physical tools and game time understanding that he wasn't going to be worth a shit as an NFL QB as far as I saw it.

Geno and Barkley both looked like very good NFL QB prospects, IMO.

fair enough

I just don't see how, in a QB league, a guy like Cam Newton can go 1st and then a guy like Geno doesn't if the only concern is him being a diva

they must think he's a diva...and he's not very good

who knows though

I personally feel that it was the Andrew Luck/Bobby Griffin let down.

Barkley was, without question, the third QB off the board in the 2012 Draft, but he falls to the 4th round in 2013? Geno should have been a Top 10 pick at worst and he goes at 39?

I don't get it either, but then, the collective wisdom of the NFL front offices, especially those teams that seem to always be drafting in the top 15 every single year, isn't the best measuring stick for rationality.

Cams got the size, speed, and arm over Geno, but I'd put their mental aspects in the same ballpark, and Geno gets the accuracy. I don't see how Geno will be able to be successful in NY though, you have to have some thick skin to play in that media hellhole. Plus the fact his team is going to be straight garbage his first few years, I see him being a FA in our near future.

Cam Newtons accuracy, is vastly underrated. he probably has one of the top 5 deep balls in the league.

About the only level of qbing they are equal on, is they are both awful with the Media. I dont think there is much doubt, that just about everyone would take Cam Newton over Geno Smith every day of the week. And twice on sundays....

The bet was predicated upon sacks given up as a rookie LT. I'd say that pretty much kills the bet.

I'd definitely take Newton over Alice in exactly the scenario you just laid out, yes.

Rotoworld OLine ranking, has KC 11th

You'll notice 2012 Run and Pass Block Rankings listed before each lineup projection. The first number is via Pro Football Focus. The second number is Football Outsiders' 2012 rating. While PFF and FO's data is relevant and valued, keep in mind the goal of this column is to project the effectiveness of 2013 NFL offensive lines, as opposed to rank them based solely upon what occurred last season.

The number in parentheses after each team name is that club's number of returning offensive line starters. The asterisk (*) denotes a new projected starter.

http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nf...-line-rankings

11. Kansas City Chiefs (3)

2012 Run Block Rankings: 8, 19
2012 Pass Block Rankings: 20, 27

LT: Branden Albert
LG: Jeff Allen
C: Rodney Hudson*
RG: Jon Asamoah
RT: Eric Fisher*
Super Sub: G/T Geoff Schwartz

Overview: Kansas City has pieces in place to field an impressive young line consisting of franchise player Albert, second-year guard Allen, third-year center Hudson, fourth-year right guard Asamoah, and No. 1 pick Fisher. Off the bench can come power blocker Schwartz and 2012 third-round pick Donald Stephenson, an athletically gifted tackle. While this group remains in heavy transition with plenty to prove, the player-by-player assembly rivals the league’s top offensive lines. The pass blocking should -- and needs to -- take a big step forward under historically pass-first coach Andy Reid as Fisher upgrades on Eric Winston and Allen improves in year two.

Note Denver #3, Oakland #30, San Diego #32
