Game of Thrones (spoiler-free zone)
A few have suggested it, might as well test the waters. The idea is to give people who haven't read the books a safe place to talk about the show.

A few quick ground rules:
  • No Spoilers!!!!! for upcoming episodes.
  • Larger Song of Ice and Fire discussion should be limited to the other thread although I think a tiny bit of book delving to fill in holes should be okay (example of this would be talking about Catelyn and her treatment of the wolves in the novel, which was alluded to on TV but never really made clear...)
  • Everything that happened that week is fair game once an episode airs. So if you don't watch on Sunday night, I'd stay outta here until you do...

I mentioned it earlier in the thread. But it's fun to recap with 'Gay of Thrones.'

They recap each episode in a bitchy, catty, Sex and the City, flaming hairdresser manner.

Gay as all hell, but very funny.

Some dude at Funny or Die actually heard this West Hollywood hairdresser talking about the show with his customers in his boutique and hired him to put it on the web.

The recaps don't start until season 3, though.

It's not so much that it has book spoilers, it's just that 'spoiler free' only refers to episodes that haven't aired yet. Which means there's four years worth of spoilers in this thread for somebody who's just starting the show right now...

We got roped into comparing GoT and TWD in the TWD thread, and it prompted him to check out GoT. So at least it doesn't look like he's trolling. Though I agree he should bow out and continue unspoiled. Even though this is a 'spoiler free' thread, it does spoil things after the episodes have aired for those who still haven't watched. It just doesn't spoil things with foreknowledge from the books.

until two days ago I knew very very little about GoT other than it's a show that many folks rave about. I was up until 2am last night watching the damn thing.

someone made a comment like "I'm jealous of someone who hasn't seen this at all and can watch it all for the first time new and fresh". well I've said the exact same thing about breaking bad....so that got me. now I'll probably binge watch until I'm caught up.

Once you get all caught up on the episodes and if you read at all. I highly recommend reading the books. There are 5 of them, and they all are really good.

Once I picked up the first one, I became insatiable and read through all 5 in a month. They were that enjoyable.

In a MONTH?!?!

The audio books average 35-40 hours apiece. That's around 175-200 hours of reading at their pace.

yep. I'm a pretty fast reader. But i was insatiable with those books. I would read every single day when I got home, sometimes staying up late. It helped that I was turned on to the series by someone who already had all the books. So as I finished one, he had the next ready to go.

Imagine my dissapointment when at teh end of that month, and I was ok. give me book 6.... lol
