Indiana Jones 5 Announced - July 2019

http://deadline.com/2016/03/steven-s...se-1201720725/

Disney has just announced that Harrison Ford will be reprising his iconic role as Indiana Jones in the fifth installment in the series with Steven Spielberg returning to the director’s chair. Pic will hit screens on July 19, 2019. Spielberg directed the previous four pics and this one has yet to be titled. Franchise vets Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce.

“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios in a statement. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

Famed archaeologist and explorer Indiana Jones was introduced in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark – one of AFI’s 100 Greatest American Films of All Time – and later thrilled audiences in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. All together, the four titles grossed nearly $2 billion at the global box office. Among the top Memorial Day openers, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has the second highest four-day take with $126.9M behind Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End which debuted to $139.8M.

Steven Spielberg Enlists a Familiar Writer for 'Indiana Jones 5' (Exclusive)

Hint: This person has worked with Spielberg several times before.

Just days after Disney revealed that a fifth Indiana Jones movie was in the works with director Steven Spielberg and actor Harrison Ford, the project has settled on a writer. David Koepp, a longtime Spielberg confederate who wrote 1993’s Jurassic Park, has been tapped to pen the script for the new adventure, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

This won’t be Koepp’s first swing on the jungle vine, as the screenwriter, who also wrote Spielberg movies The Lost World: Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds, co-wrote the previous Indiana Jones movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Plot details are being kept secure in the Well of the Souls. It is unclear if Koepp is working off any existing treatment or story. Crystal Skull, for example, has treatments written by Indiana Jones co-creator George Lucas and the story credit went to Lucas and Jeff Nathanson, the latter who wrote several drafts. Lucas' involvement in the new movie project remains unclear. He was not mentioned in Disney's announcement this week and if the new Star Wars movies are any indication, he will not be involved. (He was vocal in saying Force Awakens did not use his ideas.)

Also unclear is how the script will address the age factor of Ford, who will be 77 years old when the new movie is released on July 19, 2019. The script, for example, could call for the story to be a flashback set in a classic Jones time period (the 1930s) bookended by Jones in later decades. Koepp is one of Hollywood’s A-list writers, with movies such as the first Mission: Impossible and the first Spider-Man (Sam Raimi’s 2002 version that starred Tobey Maguire) as his credits.

More recently, he wrote Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and Inferno, Sony’s upcoming adaptation of the Dan Brown novel that stars Tom Hanks. Koepp has also directed several movies.

How the **** could Lucas say the Force Awakens did not use his ideas. That whole movie was an episode 4 rehash.

Given his age, he could be dead before all this happens, and I don't say that to be a smartass.

If it's set in the late 40s or 50s they could bring back a grown up Short Round to handle the more muscular action scenes

Wow, you guys are going to love this even more! No "Bond" treatment for Indy.

http://variety.com/2016/film/news/fr...on-1201750527/

Indiana Jones 5 will be a continuation of the story from where it left off with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Producer Frank Marshall expressed excitement about getting under way in the making of the fifth installment in the “Indiana Jones” franchise, and said he can’t imagine ever having another actor replace Harrison Ford in the title role.

In a Q&A on Monday after being named CinemaCon’s producer of the decade, Marshall called it “pretty sweet” to be returning to the film series that introduced him 35 years ago to director Steven Spielberg and to his future wife, Kathleen Kennedy, now president of “Star Wars” maker Lucasfilm.

Asked by Variety senior film and media writer Brent Lang about continuing “Indiana Jones” for even more sequels, Marshall said it could happen. “It’s all about the story. I think both in the ‘Jason Bourne’ series and on ‘Indiana Jones,’ we are not going to do the Bond thing,” Marshall said, referring to rotating different actors through the title roles in the two franchises that he oversees. “We think those characters are iconic, and those are the only actors who can play that.”

Marshall said the next “Jones” installment will not be a prequel but a continuation of the story from where it left off with “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” in 2008. Disney announced the new film last month, setting its release for July 19, 2019.

As previously mentioned, I didn't mind KOTCS and liked it better than Temple. But after seeing Harrison Ford "sleepwalk" through TFA, I just can't imagine this film will stack up to previous Indy outings.

By the way, I was watching all of them a few weekends ago, and I noticed that Raiders in the beginning said South America 1936, but Temple said Shanghai 1935...so...I guess Temple took place before Raiders? Or did I get that completely wrong? There was whiskey involved, so it's a possibility...
