Reid could care less about altitude

3. The Rams are scheduled to work in Colorado Springs, at altitude, for a week beginning Tuesday, because Mexico City is 1.3 miles above sea level. The Chiefs studied that and chose to stay in Kansas City for the week before making the 3.5-hour flight Sunday. Coach Andy Reid told me, “The elevation’s the elevation. I’m sure the Rams are gonna work at elevation. We’re not. I don’t think it becomes an issue. We did our homework on that this past offseason. It doesn’t really matter. It doesn’t matter if it’s in the parking lot of the CVS.”

From Peter King.
Should we be worried about our guys getting gassed? Or is it the equivalent of not stretching before the D Day Invasion?

I suspect that sprints are different than long distance running, though. I do lots of long distance runs in Denver and I'm slower than I am at sea level, but I don't even notice that it's harder. I'm just slower.

But going up stairs, I notice the elevation. I think it's easier to go into oxygen debt when you're working harder, and it gets more pronounced as you go up. 7,400 feet in Mexico City is going to be easier to get winded than 5,300 feet in Denver. When I've done mountain races, the downhills don't bother me and the level ground (at my slow speed) don't bother me, even though I'm slower. But the uphills get brutal as you get higher, far worse than running uphill at sea level, and I suspect that a sprint on level ground at high altitude mirrors running uphill more than it resembles my slow long-distance runs.

That said, I ran two races in July this year, one at 5,300 feet and one at 8,500 feet. Both were level courses for the most part. I actually had a faster time at 8,500 feet, probably because it was 7 degrees cooler. So there are other factors that can impact performance besides altitude.

"We did our homework on that this past offseason."

Good enough for me. (conspiracy theory 1: Chiefs secretly training with altitude masks.)

At least the Chiefs aren’t giving up a home game this time.

If Clark ever pulls that giving up a home game shit again, the city/county should sue for lost game day revenue.

Yes.... they cared so little that they, and the Rams, both asked for the games on 11/11 to be played at Denver so they could acclimate to the altitude. The NFL denied both their requests.

Did the Chiefs cut season ticket package costs by one game that year?

After what happened yesterday to Mahomes girlfriends stepdad, staying at home rather than living out of a hotel somewhere else for a week looks like the right decision.
