More accurate than strictly PPG or scoring defense because it doesn't take into account tempo & ball control

I have no idea if those numbers are accurate, but the defensive numbers seem generous. Without doing some looking around, I can't off the top of my head remember a defense as wonderful as ours ......It's painful to watch

While our current defense does indeed suck, it pales in comparison to Robinson's ridiculous "spinner" debacle.

That third down defense dropped like a rock. Basically this defense is around 20th or so not 32nd, worst of all time like the CP clown crew would have you believe.

Yeah at least this one can get to the QB, those GR defenses never got a bit of pressure. God they were frustrating to watch!

i always suspected this but never had any rankings to back it up. I've said all year to friends /family etc we just get abused on 1st down. they of course, disagree.....for whatever reason.

:HMMM: good point.
I guess I 'assume' it means we're dead last in allowing yards on 1st down. but, that's just me reading it with my bias etc.

is that how everyone else is reading it?

No, it is the number of 1st downs the opponent has divided by the total number of plays they run. There certainly would be a correlation between this stat and 1st down success though, but it isn’t necessarily 1:1. Hypothetically, a team could give up no yards on 1st but 10 yards on 2nd every series and still do poorly in this metric.

That has to be per game. Since you only punt on one play.....

Punts per game isn't a great stat because it doesn't account for tempo. You could be a really fast tempo team that runs more plays than the other team - punt more - yet be more efficient offensively to a team that punted less.
